3.   I am sure that there will be an increase in behavior problems since the students are not allowed to transition to lunch or essential areas and required to just stay in the classroom all day, what are your plans to address this potential concern?

4. How will you address the concern of students potentially spreading COVID-19 in the shared restrooms, since we know the best solution is to clean the toilets after each use, but impossible to facilitate. Will you plan to hire more custodians?

 

 

5.   You have described what the plan looks like when the students arrive, but what will it look when the students are dismissed from school?

 

6.   Will the online curriculum and the face to face curriculum be the same or different?

 

2.   When will the district provide the online curriculum to teachers  and, or parents so parents determine whether they will allow their children to attend school face to face or online?

Can the district help connect virtual-learning students at home to others in their immediate neighborhoods to create small learning pods?

Will some teachers be given the option of teaching 100% virtually? How will the decisions be made (at the district or campus level)? How can this be determined in a fair and equitable way? Will the number of teachers teaching virtually be determined by the number of students who request 100% virtual instruction? Some teachers (i.e. the singleton secondary teachers, for example, German) might not have that option if students taking that course choose in-person instruction.

How long and/or fluid will the 100% virtual, 100% in-person or hybrid commitments be?  Will hybrid be an option?

Will all students return for in-person instruction on the same day, or will students stagger start times by levels?  Phased reopening by levels or needs?

Will there be reduced in-person schedules by days or hours--for whom?

Will there be morning and afternoon sessions, staggered schedules, staggered starts and dismissals--for whom?

What if a majority of students return to campus for in-person education?

How will persons be protected on campus--testing capability and strategy, temp checks, face masks, gloves, sanitizing stations, disinfectant wipes, COVID-19 testing and contact tracing, ventilation systems, clear partitions/dividers for desks, face shields, plastic sheets/curtains, etc.?  Will the district provide these to every school?  What will be in place for compliance and refusals?

Are face shields more appropriate for teachers and younger students?

Will there be collection centers for masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, face shields, thermometers, desk partition/divider donations?

What about teachers and students who are in high risk categories, for example, because of age, lung disease, asthma, heart conditions, diabetes, Vitamin D deficiency, etc.? Or teachers/students who have family members in high risk categories?

Does every student who complains of a COVID-19 symptom go home?  Where will schools isolate symptomatic students?

What if there are massive inconsistencies across schools and class types as to how many students return to specific campuses and classrooms?

How will classrooms be arranged--with or without desks?  Personal and washable mats and backpacks?  All desks and students’ facing forward?  Six feet of distance?  Masks the entire time?  Mask contingencies?  Desk and hand sanitization? Six-feet markers in classrooms and hallways?  Doors open?  Ventilation?

Will teachers move while small student cohorts stay in assigned classrooms?  

Are entire campus footprints being considered?  Sun shades and fans to increase outdoor possibilities?

Will all communal spaces be closed and repurposed--cafeterias, libraries, gyms, theaters, band halls,  etc.?

Will parents, guardians and volunteers be denied building access so as to limit persons?  Will students first meet teachers outside for staggered entry and exits?

Will employees and families sign COVID-19 waivers?  What is the district’s liability?  Are there liability issues for other employees?

What will a school do and communicate if someone on campus tests positive?  Testing and contact tracing?

Is there a plan for intermittent school closings?

What will happen when a teacher is diagnosed with COVID-19, especially if it is a singleton teacher, for example German?  Who will cover that instruction?  Substitute teacher shortage?

Will teachers be given additional sick leave in the event that they have to quarantine because a student or family member tests positive? What expectations will there be for teachers to continue to provide instruction if they are required to quarantine?  Testing and contact tracing and communication?

If employees contract the virus at work, will they be able to claim workers compensation?

How many different hybrid versions and options will schools have to design?  This seems particularly problematic at the high school level.  Reduced hours at school?  Staggered days?  Core classes in-person?  Science (because of labs) in-person?  Electives virtual?  Football in-person?  All by student choice?

How will attendance be taken--both remote and in-person?

Will the district first direct a student check-in to address housing, food, other physical and mental insecurities and needs--what and how?  Specifically trained counselors?

Will the district direct a SEL start to the year--what and how?

Will the district direct a check-in for racialized trauma--what and how?  Specifically trained counselors?

Will the district direct a recapture period for lost or compromised skills and levels--what and how?

Will grades be assigned, and may students ultimately choose a pass/fail final grade for report card and transcript purposes?  The lack of grades adversely affected motivation, participation and accountability in the Spring.

If the expectation is both virtual and in-person teaching, how will teachers be directed and supported in providing simultaneous virtual and in-person instruction i.e. in what work hours will they address/be assigned what with what expectations as to type and number of assignments, feedback and grades?

What expectations will there be for synchronous and asynchronous learning and schedules?  

What supports will there be for working parents who are AISD employees, especially single parents or dual working parents, especially if they have students at different grade levels or in different districts or school settings?

Is the district already pursuing TEA testing waivers?

Will there be a student-centered, project based assignment focus?

What are online, charter, private and homeschools offering?  Are we competing?

If that teacher has 5 classes a day with 30 students each, do all 150 of those students need to then stay home and quarantine for 14 days?

Do all 150 of those students now have to get tested? Who pays for those tests? Are they happening at school? How are the parents being notified? Does everyone in each of those kids' families need to get tested? Who pays for that?

What if someone who lives in the same house as a teacher tests positive? Does that teacher now need to take 14 days off of work to quarantine? Is that time off covered? Paid?

Where is the district going to find a substitute teacher who will work in a classroom full of exposed, possibly infected students for substitute pay?

Substitutes teach in multiple schools. What if they are diagnosed with COVID-19? Do all the kids in each school now have to quarantine and get tested? Who is going to pay for that?

What if a student in your kid's class tests positive? What if your kid tests positive? Does every other student and teacher they have been around quarantine? Do we all get notified who is infected and when? Or because of HIPAA regulations are parents and teachers just going to get mysterious “may have been in contact” emails all year long?

What is this stress going to do to our teachers? How does it affect their health and well-being? How does it affect their ability to teach? How does it affect the quality of education they are able to provide? What is it going to do to our kids? What are the long-term effects of consistently being stressed out?

How will it affect students and faculty when the first teacher in their school dies from this? The first parent of a student who brought it home? The first kid?
