I created an digital "Anonymous Suggestion Box" using Google Forms that I added to Google Classroom.

All suggestions are immediately added to the connected Google Spreadsheet where I can see every response.

Findings: So far, I've found that my students have many suggestions:
-asking for more in class writing time
-more group work
-write poems about each other and share
-use real pages from books to revise in class
-incentives to make a 100 on a test
-want to listen to music while working

Next steps:
-I will definitely add more in class writing time. They currently have (at the minimum) 10 minutes each day in my class. I'll need to work on shorter lessons in order to incorporate longer writing times.

-I love the idea about using pages from books to revise, which we can use next week when we revise the POV and verb tense in our own writing (mentor texts)!

-I have a record player in my room that they love to listen to, so I can let a record play while they work.

We are doing an Aruasma augmented reality project for open house in a couple of weeks. Students will make a video of a message they feel is important for their parents to know at open house. We have some suggestions for them, but they have may choose any message they feel is important. However, the message must be school related. For example, they may choose to describe something they are proud of they accomplished this year, something they want to remember to do at home, etc.

I used a free online suggestion box that I posted as a link in Schoology. Students and parents have been submitting suggestions. I've had a few say that they wish we did more whole group instruction. I still had a few students who felt that way last year, our first year of station teaching. I'm still unsure how to best address that. This year, we introduce each unit with a whole group overview activity, so hopefully that will help those students who still prefer whole group, traditional instruction. I think some of that comes from hearing their parents say things like, "I wish you had a textbook like I had in school." I've had several suggestions like that from parents. I want to try to incorporate an "intro to math stations" for parents at the beginning of the year to allow parents to see exactly what their child is experiencing in class. I just don't think they can picture it because it's so different than how they "did school."

I teach an elective this year, Teen Leadership, and I've had trouble coming up with lessons for them when I have a substitute.

I decided to create this BINGO sheet for them that I'll leave with my sub this Tuesday. This allows them to pick and choose their assignments that day, but it also allows them to voice some of their opinions regarding the direction of the class.

They've already had major roles in the lessons by choosing the order in which we learn different leadership skills, but they've been asking for more responsibility. I think this will help me see what they truly want out of this class moving forward.

I thought this would be great for Halloween week to give them options for homework but not an overwhelming amount. I was also out for 3 days so didn't want a lot of confusion while I was gone. The kids loved the idea and it is making me want to it more now. This Fridays unit test is going to be a choice. They will have to pick 10 of the problems to do.

I was kind of hesitant to do this survey. I needed to know how I was doing a teacher because this years culture is different than previous years.
Questions:
Name?
How do you learn best?
What is something you wished your teacher knew?
How am I doing as a teacher?
What can I do to be a better teacher to you and your friends?

Results:
I was happy to see the results. I was nervous but so glad I did this. I did learn something about every kids. The overall reply I got for "how am I doing as a teacher?" was "good", "awesome". I did get one that said "okay". This same student also put "teacher more" as his answer to "what can I do better?" I did ask him what he meant and he told me he wants me at the front of the room lecturing more than us learning through games. I thought this was interesting. Another student replied with "make it feel more at home". I asked her what she meant also and she said I don't know. So now I am kind of throwing ideas up for making it feel more at home and accommodate for the one kid that wants more lecture than games when all other students said more games and crafts. I am going to have to get out of my comfort zone of not being a touchy person and start hugging to make them feel more at home. This is real big and hard for me. I think Im going to have a lecture day, craft day, and game day. I'll have to get some creative names too, like "make it Monday" or "test it Tuesday" or "listen, love, learn day"
