The detail, “… the keening hysteria of coyotes,” (page 5) stuck out to me because not only is it an accurate description of what coyotes sound like when they get together and cackle, but also because it lends a feeling of unease to the opening. It makes you feel isolated and perhaps a little scared, and helps to paint a picture of a town that is humble and hardworking, but not immune to wildness.

Detail, " Quite content to exist inside ordinary life." They did normal things any town would do. The town was ordinary. So when these murders happened that's why it was so big because they were just an ordinary town and violence was very abnormal.

The detail, "At the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them-four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human lives." I think this is important because it shows how no one in Holcomb was aware about the shooting when is was going down.

"Up on the highway, there are two filling stations, one of which doubles as a meagerly supplied grocery store, while the other does extra duty as a cafe" This shows that it was a small town. Wahoo is small and it has a grocery store, so it's smaller than wahoo.
