This caused the creation of the reservation system and the government tried to set boundaries and to separate the Indians. However the Whites did not understand the structure of the Indians and caused more problems and eventually pushed the Indians into smaller plots of land.

Around this time many Christian reformers wanted the Indians to become Christian. This assimilation also sparked many books to be written about the mistreatment of Indians and it caused more sympathy for them. However the Christian reformers who would impose educational facilities on the reservation would withhold food to force the Indians to give up their tribal religions and assimilate to white society.

This was a very large court case against each other. The court held that the Sioux nation may have and pursue a claim against the untied States and it did not violate the doctrine of separation of powers. Then all of the property that was taken from the Indians had to be compensated with interest. However the Indians did not accept the compensation.
