On April 28th, President Biden gave Congress his "state of the union address." It isn't truly a union address, as it is formally acknowledged as a speech to a joint session of Congress. He presented the congressmen and women with his plan moving forward and insisted they work towards his agenda, for if Congress does not cooperate with the President, it can be very difficult to get anything done as the chief executive.

During the start of the school year, I've taken interest in collecting vinyl for some of my favorite albums. I originally started off with two, Kanye West's Late Registration and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly. Now, I have more than 10, which totaled 12. My recent purchase was Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It's known to be the best hip hop album of all time and even competes for one of the best albums of all time despite the genre. Don't mind my Christmas tree/lamp 🤣.

As the school year progressed, so did my taste in music. I discovered an exceedingly exceptional R&B artist by the name of Brent Faiyaz, and his voice is unmatched. Truly angelic vocals. I created a playlist consisting of all his songs and features. I usually tune into this when doing homework or just hanging out with friends. My favorite album of his is Sonder Son. It's essentially his coming of age story. Throughout, he develops "sonder," or the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. He is truly an artist that I will be nagging my grandchildren about 🤣. Beware some songs are explicit, however, most of his songs are clean.

What would you tell yourself a year ago vs. now?

A year ago today, I would've told myself to calm down and relax. Honestly, I hate this question. The purpose of man is to constantly evolve through his/her own mistakes and experiences. If one was to come from the future and tell them what not to do, there would be no "why?" If someone were to tell you, "don't leave the cake too long in the oven," you would only know why until you do leave it in there, for the cake would burn to a crisp. Hypotheticals aren't my thing, as I live on the cycle of life. I don't dwell on the past nor dread the future or tomorrow, rather I breathe the oxygen in the midst. I'm quite literally always biking, the biggest metaphor for life itself. "What comes around goes around." The cycle of life comes and goes, as the saying illustrates. A bicycle's wheel goes through many cycles or rotations. It can rotate so easily because it's a circle, right? Circumference over diameter gives you pi, a numerical value that is only seen in circles and is never-ending. Life in the essence. Right now, I'm weary in terms of my beliefs, whether life (not individuals) is never-ending, but I guess that comes with being young. Sorry if that was all over the place, I also guess I was just trying to tell, because showing is far too difficult (depending on the individual).

What has the pandemic made you realize?

I'm not sure if the pandemic made me realize this specifically, or if I just developed this over the pandemic, but I've truly learned to stop the judgment of an individual I've never met. When I'm around my friends and they make jokes about people they don't even know, either about appearance or what they do, I genuinely feel inside that stuff is childish. I would expect my friends to know better, but then again, they're more of a "child" than I am (respectfully), and I assume that's due to their experiences and priorities. Who am I to blame for their own decisions, you know? That is one frustration I'm currently going through. Because I've only been in this school, my connections with people alone aren't as many as others. And because of how this school is organized, it hinders me from conversating and interacting with people older than me, who I would think would understand me more than my current friends. It feels as if I'm growing apart from them. I know I can transcend much farther, but how much will I transcend to the point where nobody can understand me. When I hang out with my friends it sort of dumbs me down, and in the same night I return from hanging out, I'm like, "Dang, what were you thinking when you said 'blah-blah this and that.'" It's not their fault, it's just something that's holding me back. The same thing goes for when I'm in school. I'm not truly tapped into who I am. It's a strange frustration of mine, I'm glad I could try to demonstrate to you.

How has your life changed since first going on quarantine last year?

My life, and of course, many other's lives had changed because of the pandemic. It's history in the making, essentially. For me, it made me look at my flaws, in retrospect, and allowed me to change them later on. Of course, there also comes physical change/order. The mask mandate made me angry at first because I hated wearing that thing. But as time went by, it wasn't much to think of. Also, social distancing with friends made things tough, especially when we wanted to hang out or play basketball with each other. I think it was necessary for me to undergo this, then again, how would it not be necessary if it's already done, in the books, history. If that makes any sense. It also allowed me to embrace my hobbies even more. I enjoyed music during the start, but then I REALLY liked enjoying music. In my "Spotify Rewind," it said I discovered over 200+ artists during my time in the pandemic. Some of my favorite artists from that pandemic era are Travis Scott, $NOT, and Baby Keem. It really helped me become who I am, for, without the sonics, I believe I'm nothing. Sound has shaped so much of my life, and I hope it continues to do so.
