Life, and education should be about personal growth. I want to hear from students: Briefly describe at least one way in which you have grown since beginning college: Academically, personally, spiritually, etc. What led to this experience? Did you meet someone, challenge your own thinking, have a disagreement, join a club, participate in volunteer work, find employment, go on a vacation that put things into perspective? It could be anything you don't mind sharing. Just respond in a few sentences. You can choose to remain anonymous.

Since being in college, I have experienced personal growth in my spirituality. The beginning of the semester was really hard for me mentally but it also allowed me to look within myself and focus on me. I connected with an old childhood friend of mine, she helped me open up and be comfortable with myself and my position in the world. I am glad that I went through that experience and I am glad I reconnected with an old friends because it helped me adjust to being independent and understanding the ups and downs of life.

Since being in college I feel like I've experienced a lot of personal growth. Overall I just feel like I've started to be myself without compromise. In high school I felt like I had 5 different versions of myself for different friend groups but now I feel like I don't have to do that anymore and I can just be 100% me all the time. I also think I've become more comfortable being alone/isolated, probably because of covid.

Since college started, I have had to learn to become more social and make connections. I'm so used to being around the same people but now I'm 8 hours away from my friends and family so I've had to create a new circle of friends. Also I have really had to learn to be he voice of my future. If something is wrong, school wise, then I need to go straight to my professor, dean, etc and address the issue at hand and make sure it gets fixed. Nothing in college is just handed to you.

In terms of academically I just learned to study math better. Although in terms of personally (I made a mistake) I was more lenient on my personal boundaries when it came to making friends. This led to me to begin telling them about my personal boundaries and how I don’t like them I ended up hurting their feelings extremely. Even though I hurt their feelings that friendship shouldn’t have started in the first place. In the beginning I should’ve just respected my boundaries so know one would get hurt

I can definitely say I have grownup a lot during my first year. I learned how to be away from home and dealing with homesickness as well as picking the right groups of friends. I also learned more about the campus and where classroom buildings are and just the campus layout itself. This semester definitely taught me how to budget my money a lot better when going off to school in another state and not having your parents to depend on for everything.

Before college, I used to procrastinate entirely too much. That didn’t change immediately because I thought that the workload would be somewhat the same; it wasn’t. After a few weeks I began to manage my time differently and found a set schedule my first semester. I brought the same skill to this semester as well.

Being away from home and not being around family, I have learned that I need to start putting my feelings first. I've also learned I am a very independent person and that everyone doesn't have the same mindset that I do and thats okay. I've grown to be okay with being different. I've also learned that things don't just come to you. If you want something, you have to go get it yourself.

Since I’ve been in college I have learned the importance of things aside from just grades. I have learned just how important breaks are for your mental health. Growing through a whole school year without breaks has been an incredibly challenging year. The lack of any breaks led to me being incredibly unmotivated towards the end of both semesters. So I have taught myself just how to break effectively without sabotaging my potential success.
