Innovators

I definitely agree with the innovators type because I have way too many hobbies. It mentions that innovators have the widest range of hobbies and interests. I enjoy reading, gaming, skiing, writing, watching movies, watching television... the list could go on and on! It also mentioned that innovators love problem solving. I love solving puzzles and helping friends figure out the solutions to problems. It also said that innovators are skeptical of advertising. I wasn't always that way, but recently I have found myself being skeptical of all advertising. After I took a Women's Studies course in high school, I became a strong advocate of human rights. Becoming aware of all of the issues in our society made me analyze advertising further.

Experiencers

Now this one was interesting because it kind of contradicts my primary type as an innovator. Experiencers want everything. This isn't necessarily true for me. I don't spend much money, but I do want to try a lot of different things. I wonder if that's where it got that idea. I have a ton of hobbies and I love trying new things. So I WANT everything in terms of wanting to try everything, but not in a consumerism aspect. I'm definitely not up on the main fashions of the world either, but that's what experiencers are. I really kind of disagree that I'm an experiencer beyond the point that says experiencers have a heightened sense of visual stimulation. Out of all of my senses, visuals seem to appeal to me the most. I'm a film major so I guess that may have been obvious!

Ad aimed at my VALS results

This ad really aims at my VALS results because it incorporates technology and hobbies that my innovator side loves. It also shows something new and something that an experiencer would want to try (as they tend to want everything anyhow). It uses the word "you" to get the audience involved in the ad and giving them the chance to imagine themselves as the people featured in the ads. It makes it seem like you and the company are working together as opposed to "we're only here to sell you a product".

Ad that doesn't appeal to my VALS results

This ad, however, does not appeal to my VALS results at all. As a innovator, I'm skeptical of ads to begin with. Whenever an ad is utilizing sex as a selling point, I generally tend to ignore the product. I'm also not up on the new fashions or perfumes, so I wouldn't be interested in this ad in the first place if it didn't involve sex. This ad is trying to utilize sex and beautiful people to sell their product. They want us to believe that we can be that beautiful (and have sex) if we use Gucci perfume. It doesn't appeal to my innovator side at all. While it may appeal to experiencers, I do not have the experiencer qualities that it would appeal to.
