They challenge me and cause me to be a better person. On my dad and moms side they are both not very religious and my entire family is republican. Except for me. I don't believe most things republicans stand for and I believe in equality and typically that is not what republicans want. I'm sort of an out cast in my family I stand up for my self and share my beliefs even when it contradicts my family members. My mom has taught me to do this to stand up not sit down to make noise and be different not to follow the status quote. I am my own person and no matter how much my family influences me on my beliefs I will always have my own set of beliefs that have pieces of my family's beliefs and pieces of my friend's beliefs and pieces of my school's beliefs its a mixture. I love my family they have caused me to be who I am now. My family has given me ideas and thoughts and beliefs that I don't always follow/agree with but I always listen. I can act crazy and not get judged, I can do a skit with out worrying do they like it?, I can meet other people with the same faith as me. At camp they teach us to be grateful, kind, thankful, and to not be bucket dippers! imagine we all have invisible buckets on top of our heads and when some one does something nice to you or when you do something nice to them your bucket is filled. It feels good to have your bucket full so why wouldn't you want to fill someone else's bucket? But it also feels bad to have an empty bucket. This happens when someone is mean to you or if you feel bad about something or even if you get a bad grade. We want to make sure everyone feels good and has a full bucket especially at Camp Fox. Its nice to go to FSHA and be surrounded by people who go to Camp Fox they are a constant reminder of Camp and remind me to be a bucket filler. At camp we also have this thing called a rag. A rag is a symbol of your spirituality and how you grow and change and learn to be a better person. I a currently at my third rag which is the brown rag. To get a rag you read a few passages and decide which you like the best. Once you have decided you write things about yourself that you would like to improve such as be more compassionate and do more service. Then you talk to a director who has their rag and you get counseled and after that you take a hike to ragger's point and have your rag ceremony "which I can't talk much about." The direct how counsels me is named Doodles (well thats her camp name) I have grown so close to her and I think of her as family. When I have problems or if I just miss her a little more then normal I can always talk to her through instagram. So when I didn't immediately get into FSHA you can imagine our shock. It's safe to say we both cried for three days straight. We've been there for each other for our ups and downs. Both of our parents are divorced and when mine got divorced her parents had previously been separated and got back together so she understood what I was going through and was there o support me. A few years after my parents got a divorce I was with my Mom's side of the family in Philadelphia and I got a call... All I could here was crying and sniffing and when she finally took a breathe she told me what had happened and I new exactly what she needed. She needed a friend and I was that friend, but I was across the country so we talked for a while and by the end she had completely calmed down. We stick together we help each other up when we feel down and most importantly we love each other like sisters. We stand up for each other and defend each other when other people try to talk bad. We've been through a lot and it always feels nice to have someone who will always have your back. We have grown so close that we sometimes we don't even need to talk we know what each other is thinking. We also encourage each other like for example we are both trying out for SFHS theatre and we help each other practice and prepare for auditions. We are obsessed with musicals such as HAMILTON, A Chorus Line, Tarzan, Kinky Boots, Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and The Beast, the list goes on and on. Elizabeth has had a great effect on my life. At St. Philips I did eight shows total. This really started my love. It has helped me become an outgoing person, it also has helped me make new friends with the same interests. I have seen multiple shows on broadway, at St. Francis, The Hollywood Bowl, The Pantages, and multiple other places. Currently Hamilton is one of my favorites. It taught me to stand for not just myself but for others. It has taught me to be different and be who I am. Five years ago I could barely sing or act in front of my family. Now I will sing and dance and have fun with myself where ever I go. Theatre helps me express myself and truly express my talents. My goal is to make someone cry "who is not my parents" I want to have my acting be at a level where when doing a monologue someone in the audience cries because the emotion level and my connection to the audience was so strong. Although I don't mind being a background character because I understand now that all parts no matter how small or big you are crucial to the show. You help it run smoothly even if your only job is to move one chair. Imagine that is your job to move one chair, if you weren't there to move the chair then someone else would have to and it would disrupt the flow of the entire show. Theatre gives me a place to belong, a place to be different. It helps me to understand that God does have a place for me and that this was his plan for me. I have meet new friends, volunteered at places I've never heard of, and learned so much. NCL has helped my world view, it has shown me what it is like to be less fortunate or to have a disability. I have a new understanding of downs syndrome people. I have learned about how low income families have shelter and food and school for their kids, I have learned that taking care of toddlers is a lot more difficult then taking care of babies and most importantly I have learned to have compassion. I learned what its like to not get what you want all the time. I met this one little downs syndrome boy, his name is Sevi he is around four or five years old and I met him through club 21. He has such an active imagination and always has time to play. Sevi once told me that he likes being different and I asked what do you mean and he responded, "different you know, I'm not like the other kids but I have way more fun." This opened my eyes just because something most people think is weird or different or weird doesn't mean you can do it.
