Students could be asked to create a trip to eachother's country in groups including learners from different nationalities, using padlets, google docs and other ressources. They could interact on what could be best to do and how to do it properly. By working all together toward this goal they would use technology and therefore develop their skills in using technology but also their language and cultural skills because they would have to reflect and work on these aspects for a potential exchange.

Students could be asked to create a dialogue, or a story, whatever the subject, where they all chat together to create a story if it is synchronous or where they all write a different part if it is asynchronous. It is also possible to work on Padlet, GoogleForms...

They could also create audio dialogues in the target language in groups of 2 of different languages and then they answer in the other language...

Students could be asked to write a collaborative story for which each one write a part of the plot. They could also take part in the story and participate in a global simulation on Padlet.

Another idea would be to let them create a multilingual guide for a school trip (or about any other topic like the International Francophonie Day etc.) so they would have to collaborate to find the relevant information, write the content, create an interesting design, and why not make it multilingual so more people could read/use it.

We could make them use padlet to create a society or something, or we could make them create a website. For a language lesson, I think than choosing the theme of tourism/travel could be interesting. And if there're from different countries, they could share the information about there countries on a google doc.

I remember when I was at secondary school, I had an English teacher who used to set us fun tasks for speaking activities, such as being ‘YouTubers’. The task was that in groups, we had to record a video as if we were going to upload it to the ‘YouTube’ platform talking about some cultural topic from an English-speaking country. I think it can be a great collaborative activity. I participated in it, and besides showing more interest and researching on our own, we were able to put points in common with our teammates.

I would like to do a Role-Play.

It will consist on a task in which in pairs or small groups of people, students have to perform real-life situations, such as a visit to the doctor, a job interview, or checking into a hotel.

The objective is developing speaking and listening skills in contexts that they can face in real life. They can previously study some vocabulary according to each situation.

I could have students create a group podcast on “A Day in the Life of a Teenager” in different countries, with each student researching and discussing a different country’s culture. Another task could be a role-play where students simulate a job interview scenario, with one being the interviewer and others as candidates. I once tried having my 1st grade students at the academy do a kind of drama and a script, to improve vocabulary comprehension and fluency in speaking. It worked well, so I have been able to incorporate it into my range of “fun” or “relaxing” activities at the end of class.
