Buffalo, New York —

The thing that always gets me on the first day of the NCAA Tournament are the school buses, the ones chugging along stuffed with kids. Because it is, of course, Thursday morning and this is what ordinary people do on a Thursday morning.

Kids go to school. Grown-ups go to work or pick up their laundry or go to the grocery store. Not everyone, apparently, is spending the day in a 12-hour marathon of hoops.

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” read a message credited to the Norris family posted to Instagram and Facebook Friday morning. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

A surfer who was bitten by a shark off the coast of Northern California spoke out from his hospital bed, sharing details of how he freed himself to get back to shore safely.

James Eastman was in the water at Big River Beach inside Mendocino Headlands State Park just after 5 p.m. Wednesday when the attack occurred, according to California State Parks.

Eastman, 39, told ABC News he was going for a quick surf before picking up his 9-month-old up from day care.

Oil price hit a spike as the war in Iran keeps going on. The energy infrastructure was damaged so the price rose another 3 cents today. This is the highest the price has been since 2022 in October. The Israel military struck the area of Nur which is east of Tehran. Iran keeps making strikes in this area. Iran's leader said that security must be denied to all their enemies.

There were sightings of many drones over the US Air Force base. It temporarily raised an alarm. The drones came in waves and at different times of the day. They aren't sure if there has been any new drone activity so far, but no one has seen any this week.

"It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning," Norris's family said Friday in a statement shared on his Instagram page. "While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace."

The family said Norris was "a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family."

A 20-year-old University of Alabama student, James Gracey, went missing after a night out at a club in Barcelona. His body was discovered on Thursday in the sea close to where he was last seen. Police stated that evidence suggests his death was accidental.
