The 90s brought a casual vibe to fashion and the early part of the decade saw a revival of 1960s and 1970s styles such as mini-skirts, flares, and Punk styles. The desire for vintage clothing encouraged grunge fashion: baggy, worn-out jeans, flannel shirts and Doc Martens boots. In the mid-nineties, styles became more feminine again. Slip dresses epitomized the minimalist look during this period. It became fun, flirty and feminine.

The Victorian age was a time of remarkable social, and economic transformation in Britain, driven by the industrial revolution. During this time, fashion played a pivotal role in society, as was used to define one’s social status.

Just as life changed drastically for the people of the Victorian era, so did the fashion of the time, changing every few decades. What people wore was dictated by class and the time of day, and activity being performed. Modesty and prosperity were highly valued during the era, and women’s fashion embodied this.

Straight or basic skirt: The skirt hangs straight from hip line to hem line.

A-Shape: The skirt falls away from the hip, flaring out the hem line, increasing the hemline sweep.

Pencil skirt: The skirt clings to the figure’s curves at, above, or below the hip and breaks into fluid movement along the hem line.

Gore skirt: flare added equally on each side of the 12 panels.

Drapped wrap skirt: Five drapery pleats from the waistband and end on the opposite side of the skirt preferably on the side seam.

Skirt with yokes:

The yoke of the design begins 3 1/2 inches down from the waistline and is attached and gathered skirt.

Tiered skirt: Tiered designs are those featuring rows or layers of fabric attached to each other or separated and attached to a frame underneath.

Separated tiers skirt : Tiers are single layers of gathered or flared panels stitched to a straight or flared under skirt.

Inverted box pleated skirt: Inverted box pleats in front with slight A-line flare at side seams.

Skirt with godets: single godets inserted in gore panels.

Wrap skirt: A basic A-line, flared skirt by extending the center front.

Circle skirt: circles can be designed as a circular skirts .

Circular skirt with handkerchief hem: the skirt is a circular skirt with squared or pointed hem.

Circular skirt with graduated hemline: Doble circular skirts with one circle shorter than the other. A cascade effect is formed by the inner circles being cut off-center. Waistband ties skirt together.
