(Persuasive Essay) Group Tube-Feeding Is The WORST OPTION EVER

Whilst attempting to solve the ages-old office problem, "how can this group decide together on a lunch order?" I saw in my mind a group of very loyal office workers. They were successful, they were cohesive, they shared in each other's successes. The one thing they never got down, was lunchtime. "In this office, there is a sacred pact: Nobody Eats Until We All Eat." They are a proud, ambivalent tribe. That lead to, "Starvation from Indecision," Then I decided nobody would starve on my hypothetical watch, and in a flurry of quickly-moving ideas came THE WORST one of all: "They have to eat and they have to work: nobody starves, it's Feeding Tubes for everyone, no exceptions." I knew it was bad when I first came up with it, but upon further research, this isn't just a bad idea. This is quite possibly the worst suggestion for lunch since lunch immemorial.
A nasogastric tube (also known as an NG or feeding tube) is a medical device considered the measure of last resort for patients who can't eat or swallow. It is certainly not appropriate to use an NG to feel yourself or others due to convenience and indecision, as seen in our scenario. In an NG placement procedure, a feeding tube is threaded through the nose, down the throat and into the stomach. It requires an extensively-trained and licensed medical professional. (A step-by-step primer for the process is found here.) After the procedure, the NG tube placement requires an confirmatory X-Ray to ensure the tube has descended into the stomach correctly. Come on now, who's going to wait for both a procedure AND an X-ray before they eat? And, how is this X-Ray machine moved quietly and efficiently in and out of our Company Headquarters undetected? Even if you could, you shouldn't: the average person can only have 2 abdominal X-Rays a year to be within safety range. (Yes, I looked it up, here and here.) The very business model is financially unsustainable if NG lunch can only happen twice a year.
And speaking of ethics, no medical professional worthy of a license would place an NG tube for our "we couldn't agree on lunch" purposes. Similarly, no conscientious licensed medical professional would ever agree to give regular abdominal X-Rays for purposes of meal indifference or due to inabilities to make a decision. By extension, it will be necessary to hire a profoundly unethical practitioner to do what you want. Risk Management is going to have a collective stroke. What would one have to do to find a willing to rescinder of the Hippocratic Oath for hire? Where would you look? Do you really want to go down that road? Does the company really want to take on this level of liability? (Pro Tip: arguing plausible deniability in court will be an uphill battle, given everyone is having NG Tube Lunch, together, in Conference Room B.)
To digress. When it comes to inserting the NG tube itself, know that standard infection control protocols are in play so the tube, plus all related accouterments should be sterilized and sealed, new in the package. Let's all hope Dr. Shady's supply chain isn't as compromised as his medical board standing.
Continuing, gobs of lubricant are required to safely insert the nasogastric tube into the nose and to get it to where it needs to be. The NG tube, once placed, is secured in place with a clamp onto the nostril . Due to the airway obstruction, most NG patients are mouth-breathers with, chronic dry mouth. Consider: office tube feeding lunch would be a huge detour in productivity. Because it would take a miracle to concentrate on Action Items with a room full of nostril-taped co-workers recovering from cotton mouth and nose lube.
Conversely, and nevertheless to make my point: NG feeding formula nutrition conforms to very strict dietary guidelines so, guaranteed, you're gonna have the most digestible, nutrient-dense meal-like substance you will ever kind of eat. Aside from excessive amounts of X radiation, this lunch is healthy. Before you celebrate, let me warn you: the consistency of NG feeding formulas vary, drastically. Some are thin and lumpy, while others are as thick as mud - but none of them taste good. Remember: these aren't foods made for tasting, chewing, or even swallowing...these are foods science made to keep sick people alive, and they do not look, smell, or taste anything like food. I ask you, is lunch not but to taste, chew, and swallow?
In summation, this lunch is a terrible idea on every conceivable level. Perhaps on someone's surface level, easily-digested bags of scientific food goo, delivered to the office, might sound like an idea of a great lunch, but to those people in favor I say, the bad far outweighs the good, measure for yourself. Even with its nutritional up-side, too steep a price will be paid. Quite literally. In lawsuits against this company. Include in that price, the pain of the procedure, the risk of radiation poisoning, and the lack of taste. This scenario also requires employing an unethical practitioner, and colluding with them in order to benefit from malpractice. You might also get an infection from contaminated medical equipment not properly sterilized in an autoclave.
Conclusion: NG Tube Feeding. as a solution to a group's working lunch. is unethical, its unsustainable, it's impractical, and implausible. It is a horrendous idea, fraught with needless risk, with criminals and ending in prison. Tube Feeding as a possible solution to lunchtime is no solution at all, it is a descent into something as stupid as it is revolting, and I apologize for coming up with the idea.
