Understanding Learning Styles- Chapter 1 by Ellen Schmitt

In Chapter 1 of the Principles of Management textbook you will learn that
there are several different learning styles. For this activity, I would like for you to identify your learning style by completing the questionnaire at the following link. http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=questionnaire Once you have your results, post a reflection on your learning style and what knowing
your learning style might mean when thinking about how you might best prepare for the activities and quizzes in this course.

The questionnaire revealed that I am pretty much equal parts all 4 types of learning. Although kinesthetic was my highest sore with 8, both read/write and visual followed with a score of 7. Aural was my poorest learning style with a score of 6. From this information I have discovered that I am a fairly flexible learner and am able to adapt to a multitude of teaching styles. In this class I would likely prepare for tests and quizzes by reading over my notes; however, it probably wouldn't hurt to also re-watch a few videos as well.

According to the Learning Styles survey, I learn best through kinesthetic experiences. On this, I had a score of 11. My second best way I learn aurally. For this I got a score of 10. The other two sections, I received much lower scores, with a 6 in read/write and a 5 in visual. I agree with this information, knowing that I learn best from hands experiences. I struggle to learn from reading a lot, so I agreed with the score for that. From this quiz, I've discovered I learn best through experiences and conversations, while reading, writing, and looking at things don't help me very much.

My other two scores read/write and Aurally were very low compared to the top 2. In these i score a 3 and a 5. So according to the website the bast way for me to learn is
all your senses – sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing …
laboratories
field trips
field tours
examples of principles
lecturers who give real-life examples
applications
hands-on approaches (computing)
trial and error
collections of rock types, plants, shells, grasses…
exhibits, samples, photographs…
recipes – solutions to problems, previous exam papers

On the quiz thing my highest score was in the visual category with a score of 13. My second highest scoring category was aural and kinesthetic which I scored a 12. I don't really agree with the aural learning score though. I can understand verbal directions but I prefer having a visual while the person is trying to verbally teach me. My lowest score was on the read/write with a score of 5. This is sort of a problem because a majority of my teachers give me reading assignments to do and that's not how I pick up information very well. But in this class we do a variety of learning sources so that's good.

The questionnaire showed me that I have a "multi modal learning preference". I scored highest in kinesthetic with a 10. This being my highest score I also had read/write and aural follow close behind with a 9. My lowest score was the visual section with a 5. With this information I can see that I am a person who may like carrying out a physical activity to learn, but at the same time I would also be okay with sitting down and listening to a lesson. What I would not be okay with is hearing directions and speaking answers, which is the aural learning that I scored lowest in.

I received a score of 12 in Kinesthetic, and all the other categories are very small. Aural with 5, Visual with 3, and reading and writing the smallest with 1 point. This is true because i have a very hard time learning, if there is not a project involved I can promise you i will not remember it in a month. But I can remember topics I created projects for from 6th grade.

I got a 12 for kinesthetic which is very high, and then aural with a 7 which is a little more than half of my kinesthetic score. My visual and Read/writing scores were very low with a 4 and 3, so I learned that I am bad with presentations and reading and comprehending info. I learned that I am better with the hands on activities like in chemistry.

I like hands on activities and working with other people. I scored lowest Visually i would say I do like to see things but I would prefer to physically either read it or interact, I get bored fast and sitting still and just
looking at something just isnt my forte I like ti get up and get moving.

I agree with these choices because I like to see what someone is describing to me along with being able to do that activity for what they are describing. I am very active in sports and the outdoors and I like to be on the move and know what is next before it even occurs because I don't like just sitting and not doing anything. I scored lowest on Read/Write and Aural because I don't really like just sitting and writing for long periods of times. I would rather be doing a hands on activity that requires me to get up and moving than just sitting for long periods of time.

This is definitely my learning preference because I have always been a pretty energetic person that likes to move, and that also transfers over to my learning. I scored lowest on Read/Write. I feel this is correct because I think just sitting around reading and writing is just boring, so it makes sense that reading and writing was my lowest learning preference.

The questionnaire concluded that I have a mild aural learning preference. The aural learning style is a style in which individuals learn best through hearing directions and speaking answers. It is common for aural learners to be proficient at speaking and acting. Typically, aural learners prefer to listen to lectures rather than take notes. Which I do not agree with at all. I feel as though I learn best from taken a bunch of notes and just rereading them. Most of my classes this semester require a good amount of note taking and I am doing well. When I just listen to someone talk i will tend to forget it unless i write down exactly what they say.

All three sections were pretty close together as i scored a 5 in aural, 6 in reading and writing, and a 7 in kinesthetics. I would agree with this because I don't find one easier to learn from then the others and the type of learning style doesn't effect me a lot.

The questionnaire told me that I have a strong kinesthetic preference for learning. I agree with this because I learn best when something is hands on or a demonstration. Reading something doesn't explain it well enough for me

I always have learned best with visual directions. If someone tells me something to do, it will be difficult to get it done because I need to see it to learn. Things will seem unorganized if I don't write them out, because I won't be able to interpret them and organize them in a way that will make sense to me.
