The author states that alcohol always aimed to bring people together instead of destroy relationships and drive people apart, and he paints prohibition as something that did more damage than alcohol. We also talked about how the Sacco and Vanzetti trial was less about evidence (as the evidence was very shaky) and more about how both of the defendants were Italian anarchists, both of which were heavily persecuted during this era. Radical politics were often demonized by anti-union companies during this time, and Italians were often hated by Nativists. The author’s pro-alcohol views align well with the drinking and party scene of the 20s - however, prohibition in general takes away from the “roaring” aspect of the 20s. S and Z were accused of murder which, whether they did it or not, it was a miscarriage of justice. The judge very obviously wanted to prosecute them. People were prejudice against immigrants whether they were white or not which exemplifies the deep nativism of the country. Both men were also vocal anarcists, and the average American was terrified of leftism. In a sort of precursor to McCarthyism, the courts wanted to punish anyone who wasn't moderate or right-leaning. The Italian men had an unfortunate mixture of unpopular political ideas and being immigrants in the 1920s. The alcohol was a huge part of the glamorous part of the 20's, highlighting the supposed constant partying and happiness. However, this was not really the 20's at all. Though it was was side vs side, the drys simply did not care and basically had the mindset of if sneaking alcohol is a crime, then call me a criminal. As compared to the label, in the video we did not see anyone trying to stop others from drinking alcohol, rather we saw a big party with many drunken men and women having a big party. With this in mind, I would say it fits pretty well. Racism towards immigrants and the disparity within the working class promoted corruption within the American justice system. In turn prohibition reestablished the our dependency on capitalism.  The conflict over Prohibition was split into two major avenues of thought. The religious motivations for banning alcohol combated the capitalist notion that alcohol was a consumerist product. Alcohol was demonized in the public through the scope of crime and violence. This idea was contrasted by the growing power of criminal syndicates in perpetuating alcohol within the domestic market.
