This school year I have started a TED ed club at my school with my fourth year students (17-18 years old): by following a set of "explorations" and materials provided by the TED people, the students work on "what makes their heart beat faster", choose an idea, dig into it , doodle it , discuss it in groups and to the rest of the class ... and finally build a presentation following TED's criteria for public speaking. What we have done so far is really highly motivating for the students, although what they complain the most about is that they feel at a loss when they are asked to visualize their idea and their work: is it because we have already killed their creativity?? First of all I would emphasize to my students the importance of understanding “why” they’re learning a particular topic, helping them see learning as goals for them to achieve. For example: “Goal: I would like to improve my English”. Why? “To be able to study abroad”. Next step: How can we achieve this goal?

Perhaps setting some time per day to achieve it.
I would encourage my students to propose solutions to solve problems, asking them to
share with others their mistakes, failures, and successes.

Classroom Jobs vs. Entrepreneurship

Create a sense of responsibility by giving each student a job and add a twist. First assign jobs such as white board cleaner, agenda and date manager, art director, and so forth. Assigning more important names to jobs works really well with older students. Then listen to complaints and allow them to switch out jobs for a couple of week. Ultimately ask a series of questions to get them thinking: Would you be happy doing this when you’re out of school? How could you turn one of these skills learned into a business of your own? Or, do you prefer working for someone else? What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks? All of this will help them understand responsibility and decide what route works best for them.

Every year, when classes start, I tell the students that they have to imagine a different kind of library they are used to. So, treating the library as a person, they ask:

Instead of Mind maps, I am more accustomed to To-Do lists. When I have an idea, I don't want to be stopped by doubts or details. I write down whatever I can check at a later time and I can forget about it. It is of course possible to rewrite a to-do list in form of a Mind-map, it would be far more organized. Sometimes, however, it is better not to have a fixed schedule, but to be spntaneous and improvise. In this way a teacher can pay more attention to the reactions of the pupils. The to-do list will eventually be used to check if there was anything that went forgotten.

1. Spotting the opportunity. There is a lot of noise in the corridors of the school during breaks. Some children and teachers find it as a problem. How to reduce it?
2. Students are asked to find the ways of solving the problem in class.
3. They see the vision telling how the breaks could be different.
4. They create/ generate the ideas, introduce them in class. There are some examples: forbid shouting, play music, devide the spaces of the school into zones of interest, create silent zones and etc.
5. Children discuss the ideas and choose the best.
6. They plan the ways of putting the idea into practice and introduce the plan to the headmaster or teachers

module2 activity 2 This year with my first grade class I worked on the school Project for "The E -Code Week" last december, using computers and showing how to use Pixels.Now in the month of April in my school we will finally "move" to our new and safe building(our school has been closed after the earthquake on 2009).So I thought this kind of work: Design your Mascot for our new school. Every child will do their own drawing with pixels; they will be invited to choose the best one ,then they will try to make small objects handmade with the mascot on top and sell them while celebrating ihe opening. Here is my students' map

I have been using mind maps (mostly the spider version) since I have started working as a primary teacher in Cyprus. I believe it is the only way of making even your shiest or the child with the lowest self esteem to speak in the class. I never interfere in their ideas and I accept all answers. This is the most creative part of the process. Afterwards, teachers should help students realising which idea is the best and how this idea could work... In an Erasmus+ entrepreneurship project we had in my school, students often had mind maps in order to decide on crucial steps on their mini companies. It was such an experience to take the proper decisions and to be responsible about your own mini company!

For introducing an activity that puts in practice an entrepreneurial learning in my English classes, well I would do the following design:
1st - Define the topic " MY Dream House" as the challenge work for an oral presentation.
2nd - Make students prepare their own mind map of what aspects should they talk about (type of house, divisions of the house, favourite division and why, add pictures);
3rd - Students decide on the best web 2.0 tool they will use to present their work

Idea can be expressed any many different forms: mental maps are an artistic way, but I think we should also reflect on to the possibility to express idea through technical drawings or mathematical expressions.

Those two way of expressing ideas are often neglected or looked down. However, are a much better way to convey concepts because are more difficult to be misunderstood or misinterpreted.

I'm an English teacher, so spurring an entrepreneurial Frame of mind is quite a challenging task for me. But the use of mind-maps may help me express my ideas in a more creative and stimulating way (I often use mind-maps when explains my subjects).

I always use mind maps in my English grammar/literature classes. I believe these maps are very powerful and useful tools to enhance and improve learning/teaching. You simply “translate” (transform) your information in a visual graphic. I always used them at school and after during my university Studies. With mind maps you can:
- Start brainstorming and developing lesson

- Gather all the information (old and new) you need

- Consolidate learning process at the end of a lesson/chapter

- Add (endlessly) new topics

It is a creative and stimulating way to empower knowledge. Mind Maps are a great way for students to make notes on all of the information they receive. My students like them and we have lots of fun together. I encourage my students to use symbols and colours too....here my examples attached

I often use mind maps to build histories and narrations. They are good to identify principal actors of histories, to give order to sequences of parts, to find multiples finals. I also use them in scientific, to classificate objects and observed situations.

I always use mind maps for vocabulary activities or in order to analyse text structure before writing or with texts from the books/newspapers/magazines. Also I ask them to design a mental map as a brainstorming activity for the development of presentations. It is a good team work and they usually like doing it. We normally hang the results on the wall and they explain what they have discovered to the group.

In my practice, until now, I never used mental map (literally) with my students, but I will start because is a great way to brainstorm ideas and find solutions, among other things.
However, I always try to use methodologies that create entrepreneurial thinking in students. For example, I give them real problems where they have to reach a solution and make a pitch about their discoveries. After the pitch, we always have a class discussion of all ideas.
