Aquatic plants are also called hydrophytes, or macrophytes. They have lesser internal cells making them lighter, therefore easier to float. Many plants are home to different aquatic animals. Aquatic plants have adapted differently from terrestrial plants due to lack of sunlight, some of these adaptations are:

1. They are light weight

2. They have floating leaves

3. They have thin and or fine leaves

4. Leaves of plants such as lotus or water lily have a wax covering to prevent from rotting

5. Stems have air Chambers that allow the plants to float

6.plants have long narrow stems to prevent from being carried away with water currents

Made by Snigdha

An aquatic habitat is a habitat with water. It includes areas that are permanently covered by water and surrounding areas that are occasionally covered by water. Estuaries, rivers, and marshes are examples of aquatic habitats. Some animals that live in aquatic habitat are: whales, dolphins, and porpoises, seals, sea lions, and walruses.

Some types of aquatic habitats are:

Freshwater habitat: rivers lakes and ponds and streams are examples of freshwater habitat. Fish frog , duck, lotus, water lily are found in freshwater.

Marine habitat: Oceans and seas form the largest habitat on the planet. Their water is salty.

An aquatic animal is an animal, either vertebrate or invertebrate, which lives in the water for most or all of its lifetime.
Over the last 2000 million years, marine life on earth has continuously evolved.

Some adaptations of aquatic animals that help them to survive in the habitat are:

1. Ducks have webbed feet that help them in swimming. They also have hollow bones that help them to stay afloat. Oil produced from under their tails makes their feathers waterproof.

2. Fish also have modifications to live in water. Gills are special organs that help fish to breathe underwater. Fins help them to swim and maintain the body balance. Their streamlined body allows them to swim fast by reducing resistance due to flowing water.

3. A variety of marine animals process active camouflage through their ability to change colour rapidly. For example, the big blue octopus hunts during the day, and can match itself to the colours and textures of its surroundings to avoid predators.

4. Some sea animals such as Octopus and squid do not have streamlined shape. However, as the move in water they make their body streamlined.

5. Animals such as dolphin and whale do not have gills to breathe in water. They instead breathe through lungs. They have blow holes located at the upper part of their heads. They come to the water surface and breathe in air through the blow holes from time to time.

6. Marine life has developed many adaptations to the variations in temperature. Many Marine mammals have blubber for insulation from the cold, and some fish have an antifreeze like substance in their blood to keep it flowing.

Made by Samiya

Changes in structure or behaviour of an organism, which allow it to survive in a particular habitat is called Adaptations.

Types of adaptations:

1. Changes in body

2. Changes in behaviour

3. Changes in location

Different animals live in different types of places , if a polar bear is brought to a desert it may not survive ,this is because a desert is very hot and polar bears is not suited to live there. Its natural habitat is the polar region , which is a cold area.

The habitats differ in many several ways. Some are hot , whereas some are very cold; some receive a lot of rain, whereas some are very dry; some are hilly areas, whereas some are plains. Because each habitat is different, animals and plants found in a particular habitat have changed or adapted themselves to survive there. For example- Mountain goats are adapted to hilly regions.

Made by - Adhiraj Sehgal

1. When angelfish choose a partner, it’s for life! If one of them dies, the other one won’t breed with any other mate in their entire lifetime

2. To survive, spider crabs use sponges, seaweed, and anything that will let them blend in, as camouflage that they stick to their carapace.

3. Though not on the list of fearsome predators, the poison stonefish carry is the most lethal one in the entire ocean. Combine this with their incredible ability to camouflage and you understand why they are to be feared

4. If your arms could be as fast as those of a mantis shrimp, you could send a ball to the moon in a throw. Easy! It is believed that the blow from a smashing mantis shrimp is as fast as a 22-caliber bullet, So fast the water is boiling at contact creating a shockwave able to kill its prey even if it manages to avoid the impact

Made by Karman
