         <description><![CDATA[<p>These two resources are embedded in the 8th grade Civil War unit and I'm sharing just in case it might be helpful as an  overview at the beginning of a lesson.</p><p><br/></p><p>This student-facing &nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1iFrlMpTga-8sM1N2jGCwbHlZvQR-WpDQrWCya3wTKCM/edit?usp=sharing">slide deck</a> will offer some background info around the economics of enslaved labor just prior to the Civil War.</p><p><br/></p><p>This article provides a strong overview of <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.history.com/news/slavery-profitable-southern-economy">How Slavery Became the Economic Engine of the South</a> and led to the Civil War due to the sheer value of enslaved people. There are also a few short videos linked in the article, but should be previewed by teachers about whether or not they should be shown.</p>]]></description>
