The theme and tone of regret has a strong presence throughout the poem. Elizabeth became so peristant on rejecting men who came to win her that she turned away the one who she felt a connection with. In the last stanza of the poem, she recounts her feeling of regret when telling the son of Venus, "Go, go, go, seek some other where, importune me no more" (Elizabeth 16).
