         <description><![CDATA[<div>James Monroe did not like that there was still tension with Britain and yet they are still sailing the Great Lakes which concerned him. The other concern was that European countires would still attempt to colonize in the west. Due to these actions, the Monroe Doctrine was established. It had four major parts:<br>1. The USA would not get involoved with internal European affairs<br>2. The USA will regonize the existing states in the western hemisphere<br>3. USA will no longer colonize in the west<br>4. Any European movement in the west will be considered a threat</div>]]></description>

         <title>Gibbons v. Ogden</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Aaron Ogden purchased a state license to operate a steam boat line from New York to New Jersey. Another man, Thomas Gibbons, also had a license but it was given by the federal government. Ogden sued Gibbons but Gibbons won because states could not regulate commerce on interstate waterways.</div>]]></description>
