Topic 10: Party time by Ian Batterham

Management of your museum have decided to raise revenue by renting out the exhibition space for functions such as weddings and corporate events – without consulting with collection management. Display items in the exhibition space include: sculpture, technology objects, costume, oil paintings, prints and drawings. Often items have no protective covering. These events, which could involve large numbers of people packed into the space, may include the serving and consumption of food and alcohol; musical performances as well as photography and video.
Could you identify the dangers this presents to the collection and suggest ways that these dangers could be minimised?

I'm not sure what we do here as i have not used Padlet before. I was wondering if any one managed to get the chance to go to the National Museum of Australias Night at the museum - Uncharted?
Here is a link to their events page, it might help us come up with topics and possible situations. I have also attached two of their adds for previous Night at the Museum events (Passion and Heros and Villians)
http://www.nma.gov.au/whats-on/events/night-museum

Ive also had experience at working at Ripponlea Estate/National trust in melbourne.... Basically heritge mansion and gardens where lots of filming, weddings, events and exhbitions were conducted.
There were set guidelines such as no pegs/fixtures in the grass, no leaning/having anything propoed on the walls due heritage wallaper and no alcohol was actually allowed in the mansion with the exception of the ballroom.
Should we brainstorm something along the lines of a risk assessment?

Thats some interesting experiences you've been involved in . Especially interesting is the level of protection and rules they had to apply to the event to allow it to go ahead.
Yes I think we should try and break down our 3 talks along the lines of risk assessment. What are your thoughts?
Thomas
