My best ideas usually occur on my drive to/from school. It's typically a quiet time when I gather my thoughts and plan out my day mentally. However, I have been really searching for ways to implement more things that my students are interested in. I am finding inspiration everywhere! (Even in my children's picture books that we read a bedtime.)

I think Dave's "magic 6 words" rant may hold some truth. Yes, some people are more creative than others--but it really DOES take work. If we want our students to be engaged and owning their learning, shouldn't we be actively trying to make our lessons ENGAGING?

I am FOREVER saying to students that they learn more from their failures than they do from their successes. Yet, I will often ask myself a smaller question about how to make my lessons "better" instead of asking how they could be "amazing!" because I fear that in attempting amazing, I will fall on my face and the lesson won't work at all. Thus wasting time and potentially not being able to complete what I need to complete with them.

In order to combat this fear, I am attempting to create a space with lots of "stuff" that I can use in creative ways so that I will be well prepared when I do ask the right questions.

Normally my best ideas come to me when I am unable to write them down. lol. Sometime the ideas are good some are not, but if they can be used to influence or inspire the students to work or do their work. That even the smallest creativity that I can inspire in them is creativity just the same. Normally if a little bit of a spark is ignited, they will find and make their own flame. That flame is unique to each individual, no matter how small.

My best ideas come anytime or any place.. Truly it comes in spurts!
I can understand his rant on people saying it is easy for him because he is creative. I get that all of the time. "It's easy for you, you are creative!" I will let you in on a little secret.. I may come off as creative but I truly stress sometimes when I am supposed to be all creative and do something fantastic. My mind does think creatively but I still have a long way to go and I am a continual work in progress. I do love to encourage others when they feel they are not being creative because we can all be creative in many different ways!

My best ideas typically ignite when I am in a different class, or when I'm doing something else!!! I attempt to write them down, or even say out loud, "remind me"...a lot of these ideas come within another subject, and the light bulb comes on as far as how this relates to a different class and would make a great conversation piece. I agree with Mrs. Reese's "failure" theme...without failure, we wouldn't have anything to improve. And therefore there is no such thing as perfect. We are constantly learning, and expecting our students to learn as well. Many times we learn together, often at the same time, especially with technology at our fingertips.

"...the type of question determines the type of ideas your brain will receive and conceive," pg 36. If I am continuously asking myself how my lessons can become more creative and engaging, then my brain will begin producing and accepting more ways to be creative.

Create a Vision, define your goals, and then get to work!! I need to stay focused on the "vision" and that will drive my daily practices. My daily practices "focus" will accomplish my goals, because I will aligned. When I am aligned it is easy to be intentional about my daily practices!! Fail, adjust, fail again, adjust, fail better, adjust, etc, etc. Life is great!!
