Helga had many camp related things in her diary. Her diary shows how the imagination of a child deals with very traumatic things such as the holocaust for example she would draw and write things like thunderous steps, the roar of the ghetto guards, the banging of doors and hysterical weeping as these were the things she often heard.

Helga was transported to 4 different camps, and was able to survive each one. one of these camps included Auschwitz and while she was there, Nazi's were transporting all woman and children to the gas chambers. Weiss, along with about 149 other children out of the 1500 children at the camp, survived thanks to her subterfuge (deceit used in order to achieve one's goal).
