Oreos Are Universal

As I was navigating through the book, trying to find a wordless advertisement, I stumbled upon an Oreo ad on page 189. The excerpt next to it explains the advertising campaign that paired with the ad poster. The ad of the little girl dunking her Oreos in the milk is cohesive with the campaign's message, "Celebrate the Kid Inside". The girl demonstrates happiness- which aligned with the brand's subliminal message that the creme filled cookie makes "bad things good". This ad appealed to me because it evokes a positive emotion. Looking at the girl makes me feel happy and crave the cookie sandwich. The ad makes me want to go out and buy a box of Oreos and some millk (even though that's not the product being promoted). You know a company has an amazing advertising team when they make another product look equally attractive as their own. Lastly, this ad represents visual Esperanto because there are zero words on the poster, yet the girl's happiness transcends cultural differences. Who doesn't want to be happy? Positive energies are universal concepts that everyone strives to acquire.
