Even though currently the children are not allowed to be playing on the playground as the park is getting redone. With this walk, I came up with an idea that I could consider on how I would like to incorporate these areas with play. One that helped me imagine is the log jump where they could pretend to be fast on the log without falling off when I was at the lake I was able to think about how I could teach them to be sustainable and learn about the different animals that could come to this area and with same logs as before you can see how old the trees were by the rings of the stump which I found interesting as a kid. While I was on my walk, I recalled a time when my family and I would rollerblade or ride our bikes around the park. My sister and I would hop on the logs and practice our balancing skills while also playing on the playground. A memory I remember when I was younger was that the older kids and my brother used to hang around a tree which is still in front of my house. One day, the tree caught on fire and the whole street together to try and get the fire out but they could not do it so the firefighters came which I thought was cool. On the walk, I was able to observe my surrounding of flora and fauna, I was able to stop and feel what the ancestors would have wanted the environment to be like and appreciate. I felt so happy to be outside again and go on a walk and see how everything had changed from the 3 years that we were inside not able to do much. My story is about a girl that was trapped inside her house for a very long time like we were when we had COVID going around. After begging her mother to allow her to leave home. She ended up leaving without letting her mother tell her what to do and in doing this she finds a friend that helps her identify herself. In my story, the children are able to do dramatic play they could be the trees swaying and swooshing in the mind or they could be the princess wanting to run away. With my story, it allows the children to use their cooperation in creating more of a story. "These are the sounds of children at work and at play. Collaboration, creativity, imagination, inventiveness, problem-solving, coordination, and physical strength—when children are given the space and time to freely play outdoors, truly the whole child is able to grow." with this, the children are able to explore their choice on what they would like to do. It helps create a "social skill development, confidence when interacting with the natural world, understanding, interest, motor skills, and leadership skills,” (Ridger, Knowles & Sayers, 2012).
With storytelling, they are also able to use their imagination and may also create an imaginary friend "Imaginary friends allow children to explore a make-believe world that they create all by themselves. In fact, children with make-believe friends might be more imaginative and more likely to enjoy fantasy play and magical stories." This quote connects to me as I was trying to create a storyline, I would use my imagination a create new things to help with my storytelling. While using my imagination. I was able to create this story while also linking it back to the time with the tree and being able to leave the house after nearly 3 years. What I would hope I am able to do achieve is to allow the children to have some sort of free play where the children can use their imagination and some loose parts that they find which they could create something new. I have done this before with my group of kids and it brought the children a lot of smiles because they were in control of the classroom and decided what they would like to do. By having this experience, it gives a break to the children to try something different and collaborate together as a team and to use their imaginations. I do not believe that it has contracted my current practise because I am still trying to push for the centre that I work at strive for imaginative play for the children or to all of them to be in control for a day basically and see what they want to do. As of now I am still following the Reggio Emilia and one of his style is "According to the philosophy of Reggio Emilia, the learning environment is the “third teacher” in early childhood education."
