Starting by convention in 1337, with the confiscation of the English-held duchy of Guyenne, France being the richest and most populous kingdom at the time, in Western Europe.
However, disputes over territories trace back to the 12th century, which technically says that some problems can take more than 300 years to be solved.

Its long duration was due to problems over English land in France, and disagreements regarding the French's Throne succession. Several treaties were made, but all of them had flaws and generations to come would just ignore them. Following the downfall of the Middle Ages, The Rennaissance was marked by inventions such as Gutenberg's printing press, and Da Vinci's contributions to most branches of science.
