According to Ham (2017), the more an individual is able to control their stress, the easier it becomes to stay in "learning mode." What are some useful strategies to teach elementary students that help them learn to control their stress level?

As teachers we know that an important part of learning new things is making mistakes and trying again. Some of the disadvantages of "survival brain mode" mentioned by Ham (2017) is the fear of making mistakes and being doubtful in your abilities. How can we encourage students to engage in the learning process which includes making mistakes? Or how can we normalize making mistakes in our classrooms in order to make these students feel more comfortable?

Ham (2017), among many other leaders educated in the effects of trauma, mentions that schools should be focused on attachment and relationships when attempting to improve outcomes for students. How can we improve not only our relationships with students, but overall creative a positive attachment to school, the building, administration, etc.?
