These men were banging on the door shouting and saying she had to pay the war tax. Her son was so scared, he was yelling “Mommy! Mommy!”.  She knew that if they got in they might hurt her or her son just for the war tax. All she could do was pray that they would leave and they did. She grabbed a rucksack and stuffed it with all that she could and went out. She went out at three in the morning and hid behind a beverage stand. “ My son was quite cold”, she said. “We waited for the first bus to pass”. “ I was just trying to save my son’s life”, she said. She was afraid they would take him from her. She said that when the men came for war taxes they sometimes violated the women or forced them to be their wives. She said that she’s worked too hard for that to happen. She says she feels really good in the shelter she’s staying in. Some ask if she’s heading up north, but she says she’s not interested in the American Dream. She said that she didn't choose to be there. She left because she had to leave. “During the journeys, people suffer. It’s important for them to have shelters to sleep and eat. The governments should be able to protect the people’s lives and rights. I feel that so many of the refugees aren’t getting the help they need.  And some aren’t getting a safe/nice place to live.
