         <description><![CDATA[<p>Michigan was not really involved with the war. John Clem served as a drummer in the Union Army. John Clem was probably the most involved because Clem had to learn a dozen drum calls for the soldiers. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There were no battles in the Civil War but there were soldier units. There was the Infantry and the Union Army. There were about 85,479 men made up of infantry.&nbsp;</p><p>They fought in many battles in Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, Potomac,and others.</p><p>Gettysburg Campaign and Vicksburg to name two.&nbsp;General Custer who fought his last battle and lost at the little bighorn and Johnny Clem Brigadier General who started as a drummer boy and fought later in the Battle of Chickamauga.</p>]]></description>

         <title>John Clem Affected the Civil War</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>John Clem served as the drummer boy and he was really one of the only people that had a connection with the civil war. Even though not a lot of troops were sent out he was one of the few people that had a big impact on the war.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Political Features in Michigan.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Sarah Emma Edmonds, her role was that she was a spy for the union army serving as a male nurse and the second michigan infantry. Her belief was that she wanted to use her abilities in disguise to infiltrate confederate positions. She did not give any speeches or passed bills but after the war she did publish her memoir.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Michigan Contributions to the Civil Wars effort.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>They provided more soldiers in Michigan than was asked for by Lincoln despite being in a very poor state. Even though they were poor they didn't think of themselves as poor because they knew that Michigan was already lucky there was no battles.</p>]]></description>
