Baby Sensibility offers an apprenticeship programme that enables individuals to gain essential hands-on experience whilst achieving a UK accepted Early Years Level 3 Diploma. This qualification enables students to graduate as an Early Years Educator and be able to work in and around the UK in OFSTED Licenced Preschools and Early Years Settings.

The Level 3 Early Years Diploma is openly available to those willing to start and therefore progress into a career in the Early Years Sector; working with children aged between 0 - 5 Years. A lot of time is dedicated to this course and so we expect students to be determined, focused and ready to commit to a new and exciting opportunity.

In order to complete the course:

Students need to be aged 16 and over.
Students need to have access to a computer and a secure Wifi connection.
Students need to have basic PC Skills in order to navigate the Support Portal available in the UK.
Students need a Level 2 or equivalent (GCSE) in English and Mathematics.
Students MUST have a placement in order to complete the course. Baby Sensibility is considered the placement for this course.

Throughout this course, students will have the opportunity to shadow the highly qualified Teachers at Baby Sensibility - learning key skills, gaining essential hands-on experience and diving into the wonderful world of preschool. They will all share a mentor based at the school who will train and support them individually throughout the course; monitoring progress, offering study sessions and helping to gather key evidence to support development and skill.

Upon completion, students are expected to have completed a total amount of hours dedicated to studies and their work-based placement here at Baby Sensibility.

Study Hours are an approximate figure and are dependent on how much time is dedicated to the course, and how well students grasp the learning concepts in the course material. All students must allow enough time to complete assignments, question papers and observations to ensure satisfactory outcomes are successfully met. Your mentor based here at Baby Sensibility will support you with this.

All students have an estimated 12 - 18 months to complete the course. The work - based placement hours are set at approximately 350 hours as an overall minimum.

Throughout this course, you will be actively assessed through a series of written assignments which will be submitted to your personal Tutor based in the UK, and through Practical Observations taken by your Mentor based at Baby Sensibility.

Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a Certificate of Achievement will be awarded by TQUK (giving you a fully recognised qualification in Early Years), as confirmation that your written work and observations has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the course.

Your qualification will then be legally registrated onto the Learner Record Service (LRS); where you will then be fully recognised as an Early Years Educator in and around the UK.

Throughout the course, students will have an official Tutor based in the UK who will help and support students until they have successfully completed the course. Students will be responsible for submitting all required assessments through to their Tutor who will then officially mark these with the Awarding Body based in the UK.

As well as a Tutor, all Students require a Mentor at their work-based placement who will help monitor progress, gather physical evidence and obtain Practical Observations. Mentors are those which have a fully UK Registered Qualification in Early Years which exceeds a Level 3 Diploma.

Your Mentor at Baby Sensibility will help and support you throughout your course; offering hands-on experience, study sessions, opportunities to carry out practical activities, demonstrate key techniques and skills and model the role of an early years educator as a whole.

I have lived in the UK for over 18 years and in that time, have gained over 10 years experience working with children aged between 0 - 5 years in and around OFSTED Licensed Schools and Preschools. I started my career at the age of 17, taking on an apprenticeship very much like the one Baby Sensibility has to offer; where I’d gain hands-on experience in work-based placements whilst also studying with a personal Mentor and Tutor. For me, it was the best way to fully understand the world of Early Years; where I could put theory into practice and learn first hand what it truly means to be an Early Years Educator. It was incredible being able to work with other professionals all with varying experience and qualifications - learning new techniques and skills, understanding how to adapt my own practice to improve and really getting to know the children I was working with!

I gained my Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education in just 2 years, having been able to fully understand the concepts throughout my course by observing and implementing them first hand. Once I’d finished, I knew I wanted to learn more, and so decided to take on a Level 5 Degree in Leadership for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Advanced Practise); very much in the same way I’d completed my Level 3 - with a Mentor, Tutor and work-based placement. It meant I could gain as much experience as possible, whilst learning and gaining the essential skills I needed. It was through my first-hand experiences that I was able to truly appreciate the significant impact early education has during the most crucial stages of a child’s life, and how we, as Early Years Practitioners, are able to build the foundations for happy and successful futures.

My degree enabled me to work in a Senior position; where I helped lead and manage a Private Preschool in the Uk for 3 Years. I thoroughly enjoyed this position because it enabled me to understand the significance of teamwork, learn how to help and support those around me and develop my confidence in leadership. I started working with a Training Manager to help train and support developing apprentices throughout the preschool and realised how easily I could relate, having experienced the same learning - and working commitment I had previously completed. Having experienced it for myself, I was able to support apprentices when creating a healthy and balanced work - study relationship, gain the essential evidence they needed to aid their portfolios, and aid assignments through simple, quick study sessions. When you become an Early Years Educator, you never stop learning, reflecting and improving on your own practice. Here at Baby Sensibility, we are a team, a family to some; and we really want everyone to succeed and become the best versions of themselves they can possibly be!

Meet Teacher Kirst

Meet Kirsten Sole, the Owner and Head Teacher at Baby Sensibility.

Having worked at the Harare International School as an assistant after finishing at Peterhouse Girls, qualifying as a Ambulance Medic with Mars & moving on to study and work in the UK, she returned to Zimbabwe qualified with a BPrimEd, with specialisation in Special Needs, to join Chispite Junior School as a Grade 1 teacher for six years.

Most recently, Kirsten qualified as a “Wonder-Led Approach Certified Educator”, the first in Zimbabwe. A certification that advocates for and investigates why Playbased learning is the Gold Standard in Early Years Education.

“My little boy, Luke, really did light that spark in me for a passion and inquisitiveness into infant and child development. I truly wanted to try and give him the best possible start in life and understand the WHY. So I dived into further research and personal professional development in this field and with the encouragement from family and friends, Baby Sensibility opened it’s doors to the first families in 2013.

I was eager to share and learn alongside other new families and their little ones! Admittedly, even to this day, I still get full of energetic butterflies and nerves before & during my classes with new babies and their families!

I do truly have to thank those very first families that came to my baby classes because after a year with these families where their babies were getting older, they suggested I begin a “play group...”, and then a three year old class...and what about a preschool??...and so it went!

I could never have imagined back then, all those years ago, how Baby Sensibility would continue to grow and open it's doors to as many children and their families as it has today!

I have promised myself never to stop learning in the Early Years field, & advocating for and implementing evidence-based best practice in these precious Early Years!

I love taking “what works for OUR children in Zimbabwe” from different pedagogies and putting these into practice in the school. I love Reggio Emilia Inspired, Montessori, and inquiry based programs similar to that of the PYP and EYFS programs.

I hope Baby Sensibility will forever evolve and continue to do it's best in providing a place born out of a feeling of “you are family” when children and their families join us, surrounded by passionate educators who will deeply nurture a child’s natural love for learning forever 💕”
