         <description><![CDATA[<div><sup>The California Trail was 2,000 miles long and it took the travelers 6 months to walk it. The people that traveled down the California trail went for a couple reasons. One of the main reasons is gold. American emigrants and traders on the California Trail  tried to cross through the through the Sierra Nevada mountain range before the season’s first snows.</sup></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><sup>The Mormons traveled 13,000 miles and it took them four months. They traveled west due to religion.  Joseph Smith founded the LDS religion and were not wanted in New York so they moved to Salt Lake. They didn't face many hardships. One hardship was when anti-Mormon mob murdered  Joseph Smith in 1844.   After Smith's death Brigham Young became the leader and took the Mormons to Salt Lake.</sup></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><sub>The Oregon Trail was 2,000 miles long, and took the travelers 6 months to travel it. The pioneers motives for traveling is land and gold. During their journey they faced many hardships including, shortages of food, supplies, and water. Weather was rough and  there was rivers and mountains that got in their way. Some pioneers were  forced to abandon their wagons.</sub></strong> </div>]]></description>

         <title>Santa Fe Trail</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><sup>The travelers on the Santa Fe Trail took 2 months to travel 1,200 miles. Many people traveled down this trail due to it following an ancient trading route first used by Native Americans. They didn’t have many hardships during this journey. They did have to go through hot deserts and dangerous rough mountains though. And the U.S. government also helped protect traders by sending troops to ensure that Native Americans were not a threat.</sup></div>]]></description>
