Bass Tournaments

In 1968, BASS tournaments started happening. In that time the memberships to compete were only $100. 19 anglers competed that year with a $10,000 dollar prize and it only got better.

Today's BASS tournaments are much different. 100 plus anglers can compete. That is more than triple the past. Prizes for winning can now be as much as $300,000. BASS memberships now can be as much as $500. Now they can hold thousands more to watch the event and many more people are interested.

In the future we think that bass tournaments will keep becoming a bigger and bigger event. The tournament prize and price to get in I think will go up along with how many people attend.

In the 1950s and 1960s, fishermen used fishing rods that “threw” their bait into the water. It was so long that it propelled the bait forward and anglers hoped it would land near where they wanted.

Today’s rods are “purpose specific,” and are able to accurately pitch, flip, or cast many types of fishing baits in any weather conditions.

Serious engineering and development of rods and reels began in the 1970s with the new amount of people who liked tournament fishing, there were more and more new rods out.

The first fiberglass rods were in three strengths which were, light, medium, and heavy. They actually “cast” a lure with control.
In the future we think that rods will continue to get better and one day be able to be smaller and more efficient at casting and hooking up big bass.

Crankbaits

In 1915 the first lure appeared with a bill. Henry Dills, George Schulthess and Carl Heinzerling joined together to form the "Creek Chub Bait Company (CCBC) of Garrett, Ind." Although the company would eventually be remembered more for producing the lure used to capture the world record bass, Creek Chub also introduced the first crankbait. they named it the “Wiggler.” It was made of wood, the lure had two sets of treble hooks and a metal diving lip. The lip was inside the nose of the lure. It zig zagged downward to make more shaking in the water. While people could buy this metal diving lip as early as 1916, it took until 1920 for them to actually get a patent. During that time, CCBCO also developed and patented the first process for airbrushing designs to the body of a lure.
In the future We think that Bass baits will be more technologized and more improved so that fish are almost obligated to bite the bait,

The first bass boat was made in 1948 by a company called Skeeter. The boats then were controlled by stick steering which meant that you manually moved the motor. During that time also, the first fiberglass boats were being produced and the longest one was 15'.

Today's boats are much different than the past. Today's boats have livewells built into them to keep the fish in and things like trolling motors and fishfinders. The boats can be made of many things like aluminum, and fiberglass for example. The boats can be well over 20' and can have motors up to 300hp.

In the future we think that the boats will keep being revolutionized and be able to handle more things and be more practical.
