Comments:
To Maggie's Art piece:
This art piece is different from all the other piece chosen in this class, because the artist did not design the scene in the art piece. To explain, the artist is the photographer, neither the violinist nor the surgeons. So, the scene in the art piece is not designed but captured.
Some of the aesthetic value of an artwork is subjective and some part is objective. For example, in a music piece the natural harmony is one of the aesthetic value that make people feel comfortable, and this is the objective part of the aesthetic value where people can feel the beauty naturally. Other factors in the art piece may be subjective, because different people may have different feeling or experience after they see a certain art piece. For example in Maggie's art piece, some people may think this is a beautiful and insightful art piece and some people may think it is scary.
To create insights to the society. Intentionally, the violinist was playing violin to calm her self down and be relaxed in the operation room. However this is a creative way that no people ever thought of doing in the operation room.

Comment to Amy's art piece

1. Through Amy's artwork, I see a traditional Peking opera character. It is a artwork inspired from The drunken Concubine. This artwork expresses the drunk motion in a very fluent way. Even though it is a 2D image, but it let us feels like the concubine has drunk right in front of us.
2. I think artwork is not a purely subjective matter. I think the general theme is often objective, however the specific content is subjective. Through this art piece, people can get the theme of Peking opera objectively from the appearance of the character. However, the story of this image, and also the idea that the artist wants to convey is subjective. For example, some people may interpret this as The Drunken Concubine, but others may think this is about another story.
3. I think this art piece is playing a very important social function as it reminds and educate people about the Chinese traditional culture. For example, as a Chinese, seeing this art piece let people reflect on the beauty of traditional culture. As a people from other culture, seeing this art piece allow them to know about Peking Opera and the story behind it. Because they are from a different culture, it might be difficult for them to understand because they don’t have the culture background that makes them enjoy and understand.
4. Chinese culture helps me determine the theme of the artwork as well as the traditional story behind it. It helps me identify that this is about traditional culture. Since Chinese culture tells me through intuition that this is traditional, it helps me define the value of this art.

Comment to Rita’s art piece:
1. This artwork is a self-portrait by Bryan Charnley, who is an artist with schizophrenia. Because schizophrenia is a very serious mental disease. He uses art to record his life as a diary. This is one of his self-portrait recorded in his diary. In this artwork, I see many arrow shooting on his face. Which shows that he is very suffering and feels like he is being attacked. Also, on his mouth, there’s a nail. This shows that what he says is not what he really what to express. So, he feels very suffer about that.

2. In this case, art can be both objective and subjective. If the audience don’t know the background of the artist. Then, this art piece is completely a subjective piece, because through this self-portrait, people can interpret many things. For example, this person can be angry, sad, or even happy base on different people’s interpretation. However, if people know the background of the artist and the content in his artwork diary. Then, this artwork become more objective. Since, people know his background, and everyone can get that his artwork is about his suffer of the disease. However, the details, for example what is the arrow representing is still subjective, which means different people can have different interpretation of what the arrow represent.

3. For this artwork, it let people knows about the mental disease of schizophrenia. Since mental disease is not a kind of disease that can be will recognized by people, so there’s always some misunderstandings that causes people with schizophrenia to feels very sad. Hence, through this artwork it let normal people sees what inside a schizophrenia patient, and let people know about and understand the disease.

4. In China, recent year, there are many focuses on metal diseases. For example, depression, and schizophrenia. So, when I see this artwork and learn about the artist. I quickly related the artwork with metal diseases. Because in China, I have saw many news and social media expressing about that. For some people come from other places that does not have many knowledge about metal disease may not easily recognize this ar
