The movie Birth of a Nation, based on Thomas Dixon's The Clansman, popularized many anti-black caricatures, especially the Brute. The Harlem Renaissance was a major artistic awakening among African-Americans. Gwendolyn Brooks won the Pulitzer Prize for Annie Allen, a volume of poetry.<br><br></div>]]></description>
