They were neighbors and good friends. Betty and Tom liked to spend their free time together. They played different games, such as «hide-and-seek» and «hot potato». Betty was like a squirrel in the wheel, especially in autumn. She picked up mushrooms, berries and tasty nuts. All animals, who lived in the forest, knew that she was very hard-working, generous, polite and friendly. Betty was always ready to help and share with somebody. But Tom did nothing. He liked to eat and to sleep, to sing and to dance. So he was a lazybones and very careless.
One day, early in the morning, Betty came to Tom and asked him to look after her food, because she was going to find new nuts and seeds. Tom agreed. Some time later, Betty came back home and found that her friend Tom was sleeping and there was no food. What happened? :)

Tom was feeling terrible. He knew he was guilty. But what could he do? He didn't want to upset his best  friend. He just fell asleep, and he didn't think that such a thing would happen. He began to cry and asked Betty to forgive him. 
Betty felt sorry for him but she didn't show it to him. She wanted to give a lesson to her lazy friend. And she said, "I am not going to talk to you until you bring all the food back. You can either find out who has stolen my food and bring it back, or you can gather again yourself. It's up to you to decide. If you don't do it for me then be sure that I will never talk to you or play with you. He sneaked to the entrance and went in. He saw that Racoon was there and he carefully ran out. Then he walked to Betty. The raccoon was very greedy and nobody liked him. He didn’t want to give their food back. Tom wanted to make a fool of the raccoon. So he decided to organize a  harvest party in the forest. The weather was warm and sunny.Betty and Tom invited a lot of animals to the party. They decorated the lawn with berries, nuts and mushrooms.They invited the raccoon too.....

When everyone was having fun, the raccoon took care of prepared snacks with haste. He ate so much that his stomach ached. The raccoon suffered a lot and was ashamed of his gluttony, so he decided to sneak out of the party unnoticed. Tom was watching at him. Raccoon confused. Put his hands on his face . Tom went closer and told him: Is it too painful? Let's hug me, I will warm you and the pain will go. 
 Raccoon started crying and hug Tom. After some time, he said: Sorry Tom, I did not mean to, I'm so ashamed of myself, I was wrong, I want to be friends with everyone but what can I do? I really love eating and can't hold myself.

Betty didn't seem to forgive her easily. Because he really wanted to get a lesson. She was going to subject her to a test.

Betty: If you believe greed is bad, you have to learn to share. If you don't know how to share what you have, you can't be good to anybody, and you can't be a good friend ...

Raccoon: I know Betty and I'm so ashamed. I don't like myself as I see good-hearted people like you.

Betty: No, we can all have flaws. The important thing is to try to correct them.

Raccoon: I will do my best.

He thought, "I have to prove to my friends that I'm not the same anymore."

While they were speaking  Raccon had the idea to ask for a solution to the  one that knows  much more than them: the eagle-owl,  called “the wise”. The two friends went to the big oak-tree where he lives and told him what happened. The eagle-owl found soon the solution. He said: "there is an unknown place where there are a lot of nuts and other food, you can go there and collect what you think Betty needs". He explained them the shorter road to do. Tom and Raccon reached their friends and informed them about what “the  wise” said. All the friends decided to go there and each of them had to collect all the   food  he or she was able to carry. They also decided to bring all the food to Betty’s home. Betty was not at home, she went to her aunt, she felt uncomfortable because of what happened and she decided to spend a few days with her nicest relative. Their  idea was  to let her find all the food they collected and, they knew  she was coming back tomorrow because of her birthday, they thought to celebrate her birthday with their big bipresent.

But suddenly it started raining. It became dark. And the animals didn't notice the ravine and fell in it. But there was a strange thing: there was no raccoon and the food. All friends thought that the raccoon didn't change at all and it seemed that he stole all food again. Everyone became upset. 
But after a while they saw the rope coming down to them. It was the raccoon who saved the food and the animals. 
The next day all animals had a party and Betty forgave Tom and the raccoon.
Since then they became one big friendly forest family
