  The characters feel like they are discrimminated, and so do I because the pandemic sparked anti-asian nonsense.

  Unlike the familes in the book, my family have more freedom over their religion, while those families are technically a slave to it.

  Those people eventually learn to escape an opposing force of tradition, while I do not yet.

Culture is a vital part of a story. It describes a person´s lifestyle and ways. In the novel, the primary narrator´s mother was Jewish, so she followed strict jewish rituals and activities alongside her family. The culture is forced upon her, but not completely because that would be too manipulative. She then converts to Christianity, which may anger her fellow Jews but not put her in a life-and-death situation.

• Give context for your quote. What was happening in the story that made this quote significant? Who was speaking? Why did this quote stand out to you?

The quote resembles the narrator´s mother, who in fact, wants to maintain a strict and controlling lifestyle. The story was going through a scene where black people are demanding power and equality, and to be like white people. The mother´s boy (narrator) was speaking. This quote stands out to be because it correlates with a lot of modern asian houeholds that are strict about tradition.

I chose 6, 4, and 8. Similies are consistant throughout the book, in which every narrator experiecne similar events that is paralell to their counterparts. Pathos were also consistent, as it expresses hopelessness, hope, and motivation within the narrator´s point of view. The moods used in the book revolve around the narrator´s perspective on things, in which they vent their emotions upon each event in the story.

The narrator asked his mother what a tragic mulatto is, then asks if he´s black or white. The quote is significant because his mother doesnt judge anyone based on race, but by education. Everybody should think the same way his mother does. The narrator´s mother was speaking. This quote stood out for me because it doesnt matter who you are or where you´re from, but your education is what matters for self-worth and qualification.

Both James and I have families that are similar by focusing more on education and status rather than tradition and culture.

The minority groups in the book, specifically black people, tend to struggle alot mentally and emotionally, trying to be accepted and succeed away from poverty. James always gets bossed around by his older siblings and had no motivation for a bright future, as his sibling already knew what career they´ll choose.

Economic conditions causes benefits or challenges towards he characters based on their skin color and classification. White people experience the bright side of economic conditions because their privilege opens up easier pathways for them. However, Black people & Jews such as McBride, have struggled in keeping up in society because they did not have much help for them to suceed because they're not white. That being said, Black people tend to be accepted less in high-paying jobs and are more likely to live in poverty. Jews, on the other hand, are accepted to less careers because of their religious beliefs, but still have privilege due to their white skin.

McBride was infuriorated towards his homosexual co-worker, in which he wanted to slaughter him for SA him. This implies that McBride was of violent intentions that derived from his poor living conditions. This isn't exactly his fault because he was discriminated by his physical appearance. It's difficult to inheret kindness when people put pressure on you.

My family is different than McBride's family. My family already invested in a stable good life. Meanwhile, McBride's family faces ups and downs amongst each family member, including the eldest children.

I learned that there will always be those who have it better than me, and always those who have it worse than me. In this case, McBride had it worse in his childhood because his skin color didn't do and help for his bad reputation.
