In 1949, Christiansen changed the material of the toys. He switched wood to plastic. A early version of the interlocking plastic bricks came out in 1949.

1958

Christiansen's son, Godtfred, intrduced the patented stud-and-tube system still used today. It provided stronger connections. Builders could construct more complex creations.

1970~1990

LEGO's expansion globally with themed sets and minifigures. Like Star Wars and Harry Potter. It helped the company attract new users. Although their products have undergone extensive development , the traditional LEGO brick remains the foundation. In other words, the bricks made today still fit those produced over 60 years ago. It let company keep their old customers.

1998

LEGO was inducted into the U.S. National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998. It was named "Toy of the Century" by multiple authorities, beating out the Teddy bear and Barbie.
