         <description><![CDATA[<p>Selena Quintanilla Perez was a Latin singer, known as the "Queen of Tejano Music". Selena was born and raised in Lake Jackson, Texas, where she grew up speaking English. She was later taught Spanish at the age of ten and became fluent.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Selena&#39;s passing shocked the world on  March 31st, 1995.  At twenty-three years old, she was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar who was the president of her fan club in Corpus, Christi Texas. Selena’s murder sent shockwaves through the Latino (Hispanic) community, and her fans around the world mourned the singer’s passing.</title>

         <title>Selena has a long variety of accomplishments. She was nominated for eighty-six awards throughout her career, with sixty-seven wins. She also won thirty-six Tejano music awards, fourteen Billboard Latin Music Awards, Ten Lo Nuestro Awards, five BMI Awards, and one award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. 1995 she was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame.</title>

         <title>Selena had an impact on Latino/ Hispanic culture due to the fact she inspired many Mexican-Americans. It must have been really hard being in the music industry while being a Mexican-American woman in a male-dominated genre but Selena did the impossible. She also became the first female Tejano Music artist to win a Grammy. </title>

         <title>Music executive José Behar, who had just opened the Latin division of EMI Records, watched Selena perform at the 1989 Tejano Music Awards. Soon after the concert, he signed Selena as a solo artist to the EMI label. She released her self-titled album that year. Between 1989 and 1995, Selena released five studio albums and one live album. </title>
