Good Nutrition Helps Students Learn

When I put these images together, I was thinking about the terrible lunches I had growing up. They were gross: high fat, high calories, no fresh vegetables or fruit. Basically, they were designed to be as cheap as possible and as filling as possible. Teachers always complained that students were so sluggish after lunch. I think this sluggishness was a result of the food they were eating.

Also, the image with the fighting broccoli and chocolate bar made me think about the problem. The problem isn't just availability it's also education. For example, in the garden project that Michelle Obama spearheaded, students actually planted their own vegetables, harvested them, and prepared them to eat. Everyone was excited to eat the vegetable that they help grow and prepare.

We can learn from the book that Nigeria is the country that spent with the highest percentages of income on food. I think the problem is caused by the very low per capita income in the area. People don't have enough money to buy some nutritionally balanced or delicious food because their per capita income is not high. And as we can see from the picture, the quality of the food is not very high either.

Elderly living alone are hard to work and cannot earn economic income unless their children support them. There are many elderly living alone in the world and there are lonely deaths. Welfare for them exists in most countries, but it is actually too much for them to live comfortably. This picture shows an elderly person crouching in a park and eating food distributed by a volunteer group. Even some elderly people who live alone often eat instant ramen. This picture reminded me of the problem of malnutrition among the elderly living alone.

So they would have limited budgets on food and other daily requirements. So each times of shopping would take them some considerations. For example, the bus or taxi fee would be considered in a total cost for that travel. So normally, the roommates would wrote a list of things, that they would like to buy.

Lack of money means no food to eat, which cause poor nutrition. Althought lots of country have food bank set up for those homless people, there are still lots of homeless people don't have any food to eat. This picture shows a skinny homeless child sleeping on the street.

This problem is actually occurring in Japan, which is a developed country. However, it is an unrelated problem for people living in large cities. So who has this problem? This issue is for people living in the countryside. In a story that actually happened, a high school girl who lived in the countryside spent three hours one way to attend high school. In short, she spent six hours traveling to school almost every day. Her house was poor and had no cars, so she used to cycle, train and walk. Because of that, she couldn't make friends and couldn't allocate time to study, so her dream of going to university in Tokyo didn't come true. This story is a bit extreme, but we modern people benefit greatly from transportation. People without transportation are walking while we are resting. And they are walking again while we are studying. As a result, they will suffer many disadvantages.

When people go to college, their parents won't give them too much money. At this time we need to manage our money and health properly. I think college students can't rely on take-out and overspending. We should prepare a chart to track our healthy eating and spending for the week. This can greatly reduce our own expenses. At the same time, it can help us plan our money in advance.

It is pretty obvious that elementary, middle, and high schools in United states have not providing great quality of food for their students. The obesity rate over 90 state is 42% which is very high and I'll believe it's because of commercialized fast food and diet. When we compare the US schools' diet with Asian country's school, we can easily notice that it is It is greasy and able to make it easily and fast. When I looked at this picture, it looks actually tasty at the first time as a Korean. However, when I am imagine to eat this food every single day, I definitely think it will be hard to keep in shape.

Many people can't get well-paid jobs because of their education and age. But in order to make a better life for their family members, they are not willing to spend money, so some people, such as restaurant cleaners, eat other people's leftovers. They may even take them home to eat. These foods are not safe. Food stored for a long time will produce nitrite, which is a kind of harmful substance.
