1 way to de-escalate an argument is to take a break and disengage from that argument. Whether that is a group chat or a private chat you can leave or just stop responding to mean comments or hate. Another way is to talk about how you feel. It is a really good way that will change your tone. They will know that you don't want to fight anymore and you guys can be on better terms.

A way to de-escalate from digital drama is if you are in a group chat, you can mute the chat so you don't get notifications of people auguring and it won't drag you into the drama because people can't really see that you muted the notifications of the chat but if you leave the chat people are probably gonna ask you oh why did you leave the chat and stuff.

Let's say if I am involved with the situation, I would first see if things are really getting out of control. Once it's really getting too much for me, I would block them on social media for a couple of hours, so things can settle down. Then, I would reach out and say how I feel, if the other person is sorry about what she/he said. I would see continue the relationship I have with them, but if it goes the opposite then I would complete cut ties with them.

Try telling other friends that aren't directly involved to lie low or go offline because more people in a heated conversation is never a good thing. Let them have their privacy and let them solve their own problems. Getting involved only leads to more problems and more drama when you just want to sleep or do your own thing.

One way to de-escalate digital drama would be to change the topic of whatever that argument is about. For example, if some people are arguing about some viral video, then you could possibly send a funny video to those people who are arguing to eventually turn down the heat of the argument to more like a tense conversation. If you are using Discord, however, you could ping a moderator or an admin to give that person (and maybe you if you're a part of the argument) a consequence, like a temporary mute in the server, a warning, kick, or if too extreme, a ban. You would usually not be able to find out the person who started that argument, so everyone who entered the argument would get a consequence.
