This is partially due to the number of books not being returned or being damaged, but also due to accessibility.&nbsp;<br><br>We do however, also have physical books - so please ask your teacher if you would prefer one of those!<br><br></div>]]></description>

If you would like to, it would be helpful to read through these words before starting the book, so your child is familiar with them when he/she comes across them in their book. If they can't read a word, try and sound it out with them (using the sound mat from the parents help page). You can also read that word to them, and get them to read it back. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Comprehension is a really important skill to have, and if they practice it now, they will master the skill by the time they get on to accelerated reader!<br>At the back of the book, there is a "review" page, where it has a few questions that you can ask your child about what they have just read.&nbsp;<br>This is invaluable and will help your child have a greater understanding when they read, instead of just reading and not taking it in. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although your child will be taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home.<br><br>The book has been carefully matched to your child’s current reading level. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence in reading.<br><br></div><div>Listen to them read the book. Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After they have finished, talk about the book together.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The phonics screening check is a quick and easy check of your child’s phonics knowledge.&nbsp; It helps the school confirm whether your child has made the expected progress.</div><div><br>The national phonics screening check was introduced in 2012 to all Year 1 pupils in the country. It is a short, statutory assessment to ensure that children are making sufficient progress in the phonics skills to read words and are on track to become fluent readers who can enjoy reading for pleasure and for learning.</div>]]></description>

         <title>How is it done?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Your child will sit with the class teacher and will be asked to read 40 words aloud. The test normally takes a few minutes. If your child is struggling the teacher will stop the check.&nbsp; The check is carefully designed not to be stressful for your child.</div><div><br>The check consists of a list of 40 words, half real words and half nonsense words, the nonsense words will be shown to your child with a picture of an alien. This not only makes the check a bit more fun, but provides the children with a context for the nonsense word which is independent from any existing vocabulary they may have.</div>]]></description>
