I loved the composition, color selection, and scale of the quilt. It feels very modern and geometrical. I also thought the artist had a very interesting life story and approach to her work. She used old clothes and left them at actual size when possible. She designed her quilts to put shapes and colors together that she felt complimented each other. I measured the fabric swatches the artiest used and then scaled them up to 16 x 20 in size on two heavy artist paper. My first version is based not he Limited Pallet Swatches. I didn't think it came out that well, as I made the swatches before selected the quilt. I thought I would have gotten a better result to use the notan I did of the quilt and then make blue swatches based on the grey scale. Using the limited pallet didn't allow me to capture the light and dark areas of the original quilt. The orange feels very energetic /  chaotic compared to the slightly more muted green and purple, and I think that helps add interesting dynamic to the visual composition.

I was actually trying to go for full teal and pink, but I was happy with how the purple came out so I'm not too pressed about it. I like the patterning I did.

What doesn't work / what I would change next time: I tried to have the two sides vary a bit in height/width but it didn't come out as strongly as in the original, imo. The reason why I choose the original quilt is because I love its color scheme and minimalist style. The color scheme makes me feel calm and warm, and the layout is relatively symmetrical, which I love.
2. For the first version, I want to make use of color conflicts to complete it, so that it has a completely opposite feeling with the original quilt. Therefore, I choose black, red and white with large conflicts to match. I changed the background color to preserve the symmetry of the original quilt. It amplifies their symmetry and conflict, which I think is really cool.
3. In the second version, I tried to use irregular things in a symmetrical layout. I do like that since it's non-geometric, and that it only consists of the five colors, this quilt seems like an assertive study on forming relative color relationships. Yellow and orange together are an underrated combination in my opinion. I'm particularly liking the tone of brownish gray I went with for the outside border/strips. What I like most about this piece is the white transitioning into the deep aubergine-like color from left to right, those two colors specifically can resonate especially when coming of age/entering your late twenties. I don't dislike the colors I made this with but if I started this earlier, I probably would've used different colors other than the black and dark gray.
