Context: having an overflowing amount of clothes is a pain point and people want a better solution than to just donate or throw it away, which is not sustainable in the long run. To sell is tedious, having to individually list each item and liaise with various parties to facilitate the sale. On the other hand, current solutions are picky with what they accept and do not offer ethical prices or transparent policies.

Motive: actively reduce textile waste, giving people an easy no fuss way to bulk declutter clothes with a small remuneration, knowing that their clothes will be sent to a better home
3ft will act as the middle man for both buyers and sellers of second hand clothes with a transparent tier based sorting system that allows us to remunerate sellers fairly and allow them to bulk clear clothes with our ‘accept all’ policy
strength: we will be filling a lot of the current market gaps and be able to enter the product adoption curve right at the chasm where we have the potential to garner a high customer base with our service

While we target basically anyone who wants to shop second hand at affordable prices, our current focus demographic are foreign domestic workers who are not as picky over micro trends and favour quality at an affordable price.

For creating multiple values,
1) Sustainability: We are actively redirecting clothing from the landfill and promote a circular fashion industry. In tandem, we promote responsible consumption and partner with local sustainable businesses

2) Affordability: Our items are mostly priced within the $2-$7 range with a wide range of sizes and styles to suit cater to every body type

3) Community: We aim to achieve beyond a store selling clothes. Sustainability as a business is a community based system and as such we hope to engage our community which will build us a loyal following. We listen to customers frustrations and tailor our business to take feedback and meet their needs.

4) Quality: Being the middle man means we take out the frustrations people face with thrifting and sort the items by price based on quality, curating an inventory of diverse sizes and a wide price range/quality which buyers can select based on their needs

5) Transparency: We will provide a transparent and fair price system and will offer sellers a breakdown on what their items are worth and why. Additionally, sellers will be able to bulk declutter with our ‘accept all’ policy and weight based tier system.

My small business focus on a circular business model where we buy unwanted garments and sell them to those who see value in them at affordable prices. It is a struggle, getting the mindset shift to accept and embrace second hand items but I have seen an exponential level of interest over the years and I believe this will only continue to grow.

Buyers: People who are buying clothes for us and are our main source of revenue. This group will mostly focus on foreign domestic workers, students and lower income groups looking for casual clothing
Sellers: People we are acquiring our stock from. This group again is anyone looking to declutter clothes they see no value in and are hence satisfied with the remuneration we provide.
Community: This is an area we place a great deal of emphasis on as a sustainable business and we hope to build strong bonds with the community in helping us educate people on the impact of our actions

Aside from putting emphasis on the need to refuse and rethink, we focus on reduce- reducing clothes that aren’t used by an individual and passing it on to someone who will be able to make better use of it
Reuse and repurpose through allowing clothes to find a new forever home
Giving individuals the chance to buy items that may not be in the most pristine condition, to refurbish and repair so that they can get the most optimal use out of it

i interviewed a diverse array of people for this and their answers are largely similar. Based on the collected feedback, i understand that the everyday person is aware that throwing away or just ‘donating it’ is not a sustainable long term solution. i believe the niche of this system is our accept all policy, where we won’t turn away items (unless broken) and bulk accept them, as well as our detailed and transparent tier system. This allows us to fill the gaps and distinguish ourselves from current thrift shops out there which have poor acceptance policies and greedy high profit margins. After assessing the clothes, we will provide a detailed summary of the cost breakdown to the seller and take it from there.

After testing this model at a local flea market, i realise that having a full time store may not be the most feasible as our target audience mostly only come on weekends. Furthermore i realise the untapped market of children clothes, where foreign domestic workers are looking to buy clothes to send home to their families and sellers have a lot to clear as children clothes have a high turnover. By pivoting the range of items we accept, this will allow us to maximise profits and make optimal impact in reducing clothes that are sent to the landfill

Based on a preliminary action taken to test our tier model, we are projected to be able to sustain ourselves by bootstrapping the first 2 years. once we reach a point where we intend to scale locally & regionally then we require more investment

Our transactions link to the impact of the number of items repurposed and rehomed, given a new life instead of contributing to textile waste

What we do

In short, we collect clothes from people who want to declutter in an accept all policy (where we accept as much as possible). Their items will be priced mostly by weight based on a detailed and transparent tier system. This appeals to those with large amounts of clothes they see absolutely 0 value in and they can get rid of it in a one stop method for a small remuneration. We will sort the items accordingly (by size, quality and price) and sell them at an affordable price (think $4-7). This appeals most greatly to students and foreign domestic workers who favor quality and affordability over keeping up with microtrends.

Based on our research & trial run, we anticipate to have a steady supply & if it gets too much to handle, we will accept based on appointments to manage the inflow

Future Plans

- using AI to sort the items

-Using webchats where users can chat with AI and let them know their measurements and what they are looking for and the AI will recommend it based on our stock

-To expand to the sandwich income (people who are struggling to financially support themselves, their children and their parents). These people are often busy and do not have time to sift through mounds of clothes. Hence we will bring the clothes to them by partnering with a local logistics company that does not operate on weekends and do a drive through flea market. As these people mostly reside in the same neighborhoods and already have community assistance we will be able to partner with them and may even be able to set up shop at their local centres
