Maria is treated very poorly by her stepfamily after her father had to remarry due to her mother's death. Maria is always forced to clean the house and do chores while her stepsisters watched and laughed at her. One day, the prince had sent out an invitation to a ball where he was looking for his future wife. Maria was heartbroken because she knew that all she had was old and dirty clothes, so she started crying by a river. A crab, which was her mother, had approached her asking why she was crying. One of the stepsisters had caught her and her stepmother forced Maria to catch the crab and cook it for their dinner. Once Maria had caught the crab, it had told her not to eat the flesh or bones but instead burry them in the ground. Her corpse then becomes a tree that grants all of Maria's wishes, but they all disappear at 12 pm. Maria goes to the ball and the prince falls in love with her and they live happily ever after. While leaving the stepfamily stunned.

Washing clothes in the river was a normal habit in the Philippines, they washed their clothes there because they were very limited to electricity and washing machines.

Another cultural reflection includes eating a boiled crab, in the Philippines it doesn't mean anything special, but it is a good way to eating seafood.

Lastly, the names- Maria and Rosa are two very common names in the Philippines. They were common because Rosa meant Rose and Maria was used due to Christian influences.

A difference is the shoes both princesses wore in the stories. In Mariang's story, Maria wore golden slippers while in my world Cinderella she wore clear glass heels.

Another difference is the crab, in my world Cinderella, the author symbolized a white bird as the main animal while in Mariang's story they used a crab.

Last difference is that the stepmother didn't cut off the stepdaughter's toes when the shoe didn't fit and in Mariang's story, the stepmother didn't do anything to her stepdaughter's feet.

The moral of the story is that you should always treat people with kindness and you should always be humble and respectful like Maria is. In the end those who are rude and selfish will face karma and watch those who they have disrespected in the past get what they want.
