SDG 16 : Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

This was my first university program and it was an eye-opening experience that not only deepened my understanding of Islam but also connected to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions. Through discussions and activities, I learned about our purpose as 'abid' and khalifah, emphasizing justice, accountability, and the importance of maintaining harmony in society. Me and the other participants sleep at the mosque for one night. There were so many great things in this program. I also made new friends and gained valuable lessons that truly opened my eyes to the importance of faith and our role as Muslims. I really like this program.

SDG 4 : Quality Education

In this program, I learned so much from Ustaz Syaari. One of the key points he mentioned was that if we don't use the knowledge we gain, it won’t have any impact or make a difference in our lives. Ustaz Syaari also shared valuable advice on how to find the right mentor or teacher to deepen our understanding of Islam. I really had a great time that night. Also, I really admire Ustaz Syaari for his clear and engaging way of speaking, also on how he explained every details which made it easy for the audience to understand the contexts. This experience relates to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which focuses on quality education. Ustaz’s teachings highlighted the importance of knowledge and continuous learning, especially in understanding our religion and life. I hope there are more program like this in the future.

SDG 16 : Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

This program invited four speakers from different religions, and the main topic was about extremism and specifically on what each religion’s perspective on extremism is. The speakers were Dato' Sheikh Hussain Yee (Islam), Dr. M. Bala Tharmalingam (Hinduism), Assist. Prof. Dr. Karma Tashi Choedron (Buddhism), and Dr. Living Lee (Christianity). During the program, I learned a lot about the understanding of other religions. I also discovered that Hinduism and Buddhism are quite similar and closely related, with only slight differences in their beliefs and practices. I really enjoyed learning about the perspectives of other religions. I hope more programs like this are held in the future. However, I wish it could have been longer, as the program at that night was only 2 hours, and I felt that was not enough.

SDG 1 : No Poverty

I received an invitation from the Alumni Relations Division to attend a dinner with the Rector at the Banquet Hall, Level 5, Muhammad Abdul Rauf Building, on 23rd December 2024. The event was also attended by the Deputy Rector for Student Development and Community Engagement, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohamad Fauzan Noordin. The dinner celebrated the recipients of the Alumni Scholarship and Financial Assistance (ALSAFA) fund which will be received by 88 students. During the ceremony, the organizers provided dinner for the students. I think this is a really good program as it helps students in need to ensure no one feels left behind or struggles with basic necessities like food. Also, for me, by providing financial assistance, the program allows students to focus on their studies without the burden of financial problem.

SDG 10 : Reduced Inequalities

I have always been interested in sign language but I never had the chance to learn it until I found out about this program. I was really excited. The hosts were both kind and supportive throughout the program. During the program, I learned the basics of sign language, such as the alphabets, numbers, and simple phrases like "Good Morning", "Good Evening" ,"Goodnight", "Good Afternoon", "Thank you" and "My name is." At the end of the program, we even learned how to sing our national anthem, "Negaraku" in sign language. Overall, it was a very fun and beneficial program. As someone who has a deep interest in sign language, this program made me feel really happy from the start until the end of the program.
