There are three major influences that are mentioned in this chapter. They include family, peers, and culture. They each effect us in different ways. Family relationships can effect a persons life in a health related way. The moods of family members contribute directly to the emotional well being of each person in the family. Depression, anger, and aggression are all different kinds of hardships, "The effect of the hardship depends on the way it effects daily life, in other words, the emotional response of the family and the individual are what determined the psychological effect of the event" (Family, Culture, and Peers, 2). The conflict that can happen between parents will effect the child in a negative way by creating a negative family environment. The next major influence is peers. Peers can effect an individual many different ways. It can be through verbal or non-verbal actions. These situations can make a person want to fit in with that type of crowd and make bad decisions to be like them. eers are a specific type of people, "A peer is a person who is equal to another in abilities, qualifications, age, background, and social status" (Family, Culture, and Peers, 3). These are people that you come into contact with everyday, that have influence on you and your decisions. The third influence that was mentioned in this chapter was culture. Culture are individuals beliefs and morals. When an individual sees someone else with risky behavioral actions, that person's morals can be influenced to act like them. These individuals are called dominate individuals, "It is the dominate individuals who seen to be the most influential, particularly with regard to high-risk behaviors" (Family, Culture, and Peers, 3). Too much influence from dominate individuals can change the individuals around them that are watching them. These three influences contribute a lot to how an individual's behaviors will be effected.

My mom has major influential impact on me. She works hard on everything that she does and she never gives up. She hardly ever argues with people, she always helps find a solution. She is my role model and I look up to what she does as an example of how to do things. I also try to put 100% of my effort into everything that I do, but sometimes something does not go the way that it is expected to. She is always there to tell me that it is alright that it doesn't work out the first time, it doesn't make you a bad person. But it makes you a better person if you don't give up and you find a different way to fix it. This has influenced me in a positive way. She shows me the correct way to do everything and she helps me if I get stuck. The influence that she has had on me, has become a great thing for me in my life. I used to get bad grades and not work that hard on any of my work. Her influence, showed me that there are positives to working hard. Even though it is not the easiest way to do things, it is the best way to do things. Now I have all A's and I have received many academic awards for my effort. I could not have accomplished any of this without her influence.
