It is a collection of texts written on papyrus, but does include beautiful drawings in the margins that I find really mesmerizing.
-Cían McCarthy

The Snake Goddess is a Minoan sculpture, of which multiple have been recovered. I personally find this sculpture very impressive, as it is almost rhythmic in nature, as well as more fluid compared to the sculptures I saw in the Egyptian lesson. The patterns and clothing are also extremely interesting to look at. Not to mention, the slithering snakes are a nice touch. Though its reason for creation are still unknown, I believe that the Snake Goddess is one of the best examples of Minoan art. - Alora Warren

I'm a sucker for sculptures that seemingly capture motion. So when I saw the Nike of Samothrace, or Winged Victory, I knew that this was my personal favorite sculpture from the Greek Hellenistic period. The chiton bunching up, as if facing against blowing wind, the outstretched wings that look as if they are trying to capture the current they face. All of this makes the Winged Victory one of my favorite pieces of art. - Alora Warren

The Dying Gaul depicts a warrior from Gaul who has been severely injured on his side during battle, and will likely die soon. The backstory of this piece is intriguing: he is a Gaul, an ancient Celt, but he is from Anatolia. To my mind, Gauls and Celts lived in France, Britain, and Ireland, so it blew my mind a little to discover the Celtic Galatians of central Asia Minor. His face is a mix of agony and calm, and his mustache is a very interesting thing to see in a Hellenistic sculpture. The portrayal of him as a very strong character who has a relatively small wound (it would still be lethal considering the lack of medical care back then) may also be an attempt to indicate the Galatians' weakness, as the statue represents Pergamon's resounding victory over Galatia.
-Cían McCarthy

Though most figures during the time were focused on perfecting the proportions- Nike was wonderfuly sculpted in motion. which was more common in later periods. Alexia Steele

It also shows realistic characteristics of his facial and body structure while including cuneiform writing on his robe. The writing on his robe shows how advanced his society has become. Justine Boyer

This statue stood out to me because of the amount of emotion the whole piece of artwork has. To the twisted torso and the Hellenistic characteristics,it shows a Gaul struggling from a deathly wound after losing to the Romans. Lastly, another interesting quality of the statue has to be its proportional composition. The statute shows him with his hand on his knee hunched over and his realistic facial features impressed me. Justine Boyer

My favorite thing in this artwork has to be the fairies flying above the people and Jesus.
