Vincent van gogh was born on March 30th in Groot Zundert, Holland. His father, Theodorus Van Gogh, had been a pastor. Vincent was a post-impressionist, which is a type of art that really stresses on form and color within the painting. Van gogh was a brilliant man, he was just very sick. He was said to have many different mental illnesses. Because he had used lead based paint, it led to him having lead poisoning. This was because when he would paint, he would put his paintbrush in his mouth when there was paint on it. The lead in the paint is very dangerous and this was one thing that made him go a little crazy. He also would sip on turpentine because thats what painters would usually get addicted too. His younger brother Theo had paid one of van gogh’s friends from paris, Paul Gauguin, to live with him and just keep an eye on him. They didn’t get along very well so one day when Paul stormed out of the house, vincent had taken an open razor and cut his ear off. He gave it to a prostitute named rachel and told her to take care of it. After he was put in a mental hospital, he had tried to commit suicide but failed. He died shortly after that on July 29, 1890.

One of vincents greatest achievements was his painting “Starry Night”. He had only sold one painting himself his whole lifetime. This is one of the most well known paintings ever created. This gets re-painted or drawn on so many other different things because it is so magnificent. This is the most copied painting of all time. People can’t get enough of it. Because of this painting and others, i don’t think we will ever stop seeing them or ever stop hearing of Vincent Van Gogh.

During the time that vincent was alive, no one ever really appreciated his artwork. They all thought he was crazy and he only sold one good painting. But back then, no one saw the beauty and feeling within the paintings. The colors were so beautiful and his art just meant something to him. He never thought he was good enough. He had well over a thousand paintings during his time and he could only sell one. But now, his art is just something everyone should know about because it is just that great.

He thinks that those are the reasons why he wasn't fully developed in his artistic career.
