Tennessee sent over 120,000 soldiers to fight for the Confederacy and over 31,000 came to represent the Union and the state of Tennessee had more battles fought within its borders than any other state except Virginia  during the Civil War. The main battles that took place in the state were Shiloh, Fort Donelson, Chickamauga/Chattanooga, and Stones Rivers.
