As a Gen Z teen, the digital citizenship element that is relevant to me is the digital etiquette because our character in the social media is seen anywhere by anyone. People tend to judge us by our actions in social media and if we don't have the proper etiquette, we will be criticized. It is extremely important for us, Gen Z teens, to maintain a good digital etiquette because it reflects our personality and character. The use of appropriate language, not oversharing personal information, being respectful to others and understanding our own digital footprint are just some of the key components to having a good digital etiquette. By having a good digital etiquette, Gen Z teens can have an advantage in job prospects and also build strong relationships with friends. As a student, information is essential to gaining more knowledge and learning. With the abundance of digital and print resources available, students have access to an unprecedented amount of information. Thesis, projects, assignments, et cetera are the tasks that required information. Finding and utilizing the right information for tasks such as these can be overwhelming for a student, as they may not have the expertise or experience to be able to discern what information is valid and relevant. I once corrected someone in the past for sharing fake news. I felt compelled to do so, not just to ensure that accurate information was being shared, but also to protect others from the danger of misinformation. Explaining it to them was one of the challenges for me because they have different beliefs, and are not as literate as me when it comes to media and information. Despite this, I was able to explain why it was important to be more aware of the source of information and how the dissemination of false news can cause serious consequences. I was thankful to see the other person recognize their mistake and make an effort to be more mindful of what they were sharing in the future. Moreover, I was able to use this experience as an opportunity to engage in a discussion with the other person on how they can be more responsible when it comes to their online activity. It was an eye-opening experience for me to have this conversation because it showed me how important it is to have a sense of media literacy and to understand the source of the news that we share before we make it available for others to consume.
