As SMC it has felt a subtle but significant shift this year. The ITAPs in particular have felt a significant change. I mentioned it to Janine M when we did our early check in meeting but the ITAP1 really affected the rhythm and flow of the start of placement. ITTs had just started leading learning and then this felt like a week where everything stopped. I am absolutely on board with ITAP as a foundational focus and we did manage it well I think in school in the end, but I think the sequence of it at that point in the year was a challenge - could it be earlier, before they have found a rhythm with their own classes? Or later on, if not? Tied to this is the issue of having to get them all out at primary placement - this will again affect rhythm and flow and this is alongside ITAP2 which is happening w/c 25th Nov - colleagues in school are telling me that it is a challenge to have them in and out. Could SHU work towards a scenario where the ITTs do primary placement independently/ outside of main placement? Last point - and one I have raised with Bryony at UoS too - it would be great to have a little more alignment between the 2 big Sheffield providers as managing two ITT providers is more of a challenge now with the ITAPs - e.g there are 8 weeks of ITAPs for us to manage and SHU and UoS have them back to back. If there was any scope to align these weeks a bit that would help schools, I think.

This first half term has been riddled with interruptions namely due to ITaP and primary placements. The trainees always seem to be just settling into the flow of teaching and then they are out again. I support ITaP but feel it needs to be rethought as to where these fit best and/or whether the trainees not being allowed to teach when in school during those weeks actually benefits the trainee as much as we thought it would.
